from Jeff Gordon of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
The Note sits in 13th place after earning just 10 points in their first 11 games.
Like other struggling teams, the Blues are trying to determine which problems are temporary and which are permanent concerns. As former Blues general manager Ron Caron might say, “It’s early, but it’s late.”
Some thoughts on the issue at hand:
Jaroslav Halak’s goaltending: He starred during the third period at Edmonton, makng big save after big save against the explosive Oilers. But his inability to deliver three such periods on the same night is taxing the organization’s patience.
This guy needs to win a game. He hasn’t done that since Oct. 10. Some how, some way, he needs to win a game and start building some confidence. He needs to stay up, move out to challenge shooters and control rebounds—the things confident goaltenders do.
If he could regain his swagger, his defense could regain its confidence. Better goaltending and a steadier defensive corps would go a long way toward improving the team’s penalty kill ratio.
