from Bud Barth of the Telegram & Gazette,
As of Friday, they ranked second in the NHL in both offense (3.39 goals a game, trailing only the Flyers) and defense (2.13 goals against, behind only St. Louis), first in goal differential (plus-31, with plus-18 next), first in third-period goal differential (36-21), first in team plus-minus (plus-27), first in faceoff percentage (55.0) and tied for third in shootout wins (3-1).
Who are their biggest threats in the Eastern Conference? Right now, they would seem to be the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers and — hold the laughter please — Toronto Maple Leafs.
In the West, the Bruins would have to contend with only one team if they make it to the Stanley Cup Finals, and that could be one of many contenders, with the Minnesota Wild, Detroit Red Wings and San Jose Sharks leading the pack. As of Friday, eight teams were within two points of conference-leading Minnesota.
