The New York Rangers were finally able to bust their five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche last night in Colorado.
Chad Johnson made 34 saves in picking up his first career NHL/Rangers victory while Marian Gaborik scored a hat trick, giving him 33 goals on the season. His last hat trick, believe it or not, came in December of 2007 when he scorched the Blueshirts for five goals as a member of the Minnesota Wild.
This was exactly the kind of game the Blueshirts needed. Sure, Gaborik scored all of the team’s goals but the team had plenty of other opportunities to put the puck in the net but were foiled by Avalanche netminder Craig Anderson.
This is a victory that the team should be able to build on when they take on the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow night in La-La land. You know the Kings will be ready as they just went 5-0 on an Eastern road-swing and have a chance to extend their winning streak to seven games with a victory over the Blueshirts.
The win gives the Rangers 57 points and puts them tied for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with the Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers. Like I’ve said over and over, every win/point counts!
