All Things Flaming C

The much anticipated All Things Flaming C is back and filled with positive energy. First of all, I’m positive that Blake -Don’t call me Perry- Comeau is NOT going to take the Calgary Flames to the upper echelon of the NHL. This 6’1” 205 lb Saskatchewan product has been given the the Flames for 100% free, as he was waived by the NY Islanders. Yes friends, he wasn’t good enough to cut it on the Isle, but waltzed his way onto the active roster yesterday. Let us look at this a little deeper…
Mr. Comeau played his Major Junior in Kelowna and was a proud Gold Medal Champion in the 2006 WJHC in Van-City, under B-Sutz. Since then he split time between the AHL and NHL until finally sticking for 2009-2010, 2010-2011. He stats were solid and he had 24 snipes last season. This year has been a different story. 16 games, 0 points and a -11. One audio point from the Flames brass was that Blake was defensively responsible. I trust that the numbers are indeed lying. Before we bury the acquisition as a desperate attempt from the Flames, he is 25 years young, has a $2.5 cap hit, then RFA status next season. T-Jack played along side him at the Nassau Coliseum and calls Monsieur Comeau “one of the fastest players in the NHL” Young, fast, Western league pedigree, where can they go wrong? Only time will tell.
The C of Flame have indeed been flaming out over the past week. After a solid “W” over Chicago Nov. 18th and seemingly new vigor on the ice, the boys have fallen on squallid times. Columbus, Detroit, and St. Louis have manhandled them in the last week and the bleacher creatures and arm chair experts are screaming for change. Some twitterites had Sir Jarome of Winterfell moving to either Pittsburgh, Washington, or Philly. My how soon we forget. The guy was 6th in NHL scoring last season. 6th!!! Ahead of Ovechkin, Selanne and even Zenon Konopka. He shouldn’t be thrown around like a bench player on one’s fantasy team. He’s had slumps, he’s tried to do too much, and he’s always righted his ship. Let’s hope that if and when the upper management of the Flaming C do try and salvage this season and/or set themselves up for the future via trading of one of their superstars, (Miikka, Jarome, Jay-Bo, Bourque) let’s hope they make a deal that resonates for the future.
Your beloved Flames sit 13th in the Western Conference and 27th overall. (Read that line again.) Never so miserable of a time to be a fan of the lovable
teammates. Perhaps the Movember adornments are weighing them down? The awkward glances from protective parents in the streets can’t help their confidence either. Perhaps the just are having a bad stretch. The one thing we do know is that they will not quit trying and tinkering to find the successes they achieved after D-Sutz was allowed back to his ranch operation full-time. The winds of change indeed are a-blowing, but who knows what the future holds….
Praying for reign,
P.S. Big game Sunday vs the Western Conference leading Minnesota Wild. What the…..??????? 1st in the conference??
