Flames Make Moves!! Is Jarome on the Block?

Attention Flames Fans-the hysteria that is roster management peaked today with a pair of personnel moves. In the wake of another ebb of the Flames 2011-12 season, GM J-Feast has summoned last preseason’s heart’s desire-TJ Brodie. Exciting times. This came as the result of Anton Babchuk’s Injury Reserve delegation. His biggest asset, his sniper mitt, has been deemed tres mal, and he will be out for the near future.

We could go back and discuss the Flames recent results. Generally it looks like this-W, L, W, L, W, L, W, L, W, and a L. A true picture of incontinence. Yes that is the correct spelling folks. The lineup juggling continues, RNHorak continues to show panache as perhaps the only real surprise from training camp, and his future appears bright. Miikka is as amazing as ever. Mark Giordano and the top 5 o’clock shadow in the Western Hemisphere continues to dazzle, while perhaps trying to do a little too much. Jay-Bo plays roughly half of each game and has the skating elegance of a gazelle running thru the Serengeti. Olli skates hard and accomplishes little, sadly, and our own paladin Jarome Iginla has the tenacity of a pitbull, yet minimal accomplishments on the scoreboard thus far. That brings us to the topic du jour….is it time to move the Captain, and look towards the future?

One can simply look at the recent success of the team from Edmonton, and say that developing ones draft picks will lead to a balanced budget, exciting talent, and a bright future. Fortunately for Calgary, they haven’t been the laughingstock of the league for 5 years. But with that comes middle of the pack draft picks, a former GM that was playing for NOW every season on a seeming-less infinite budget, and perhaps an air of entitlement as they were the only team in the province worth watching and a chance of doing anything come playoff time. So in reality, it is unfortunate that the time may come to make a big move and restock the shelves and give a true hero a chance to win the Cup in a different jersey.

Perhaps I have come off in the past as a tad over confident in the Flames expectations. Quite possibly I have told my children when they see Oiler adorned locals that they should press a shiny coin or even a button in their hand, even if they don’t look homeless. I have even gone so far as putting my Oiler loving friends in a special criteria in my Blackberry Messenger under “Thinks Moustaches are Attractive”  As the case may be, my shortsightedness and blind love for the Flamed Horse Jersey studs has forsaken what is really occurring on the ice, an aging, inconsistent, handsomely paid group of guys that one can’t help but root for, but in the back of one’s mind realize they have not the framework for a long run in the playoffs, as it stands right now.
The genesis of trading Jarome for future picks and stars dates back to 1979 and a time when the Flames had a Flaming A on their jerseys…tread lightly folks, the “A” of course was for Atlanta.
Kent-The Magicman-Nillson was claimed from the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA in 1979 and goes on the record 93 points in the old 80 format. Calgary’s original #14 was their first true superstar. In 1985, the Flames traded Kent Nillson, much to the fans chagrin, to Minnesota for their 2nd round pick. With that 27th overall selection they picked a lacrosse playing brainiac out of Cornell (same as the Nard-Dawg from The Office) by the name of Joe Nieuwendyk. He only scored 51 and 51 in his first 2 seasons and was pivotal in garnering the organization Stanley Cup numero uno, of ....well of 1 thus far. Nieuwy had 8 excellent seasons in the ‘Dome but in the summer of ‘95 he was moved to Dallas for a prospect and Corey Millen. The prospect Jarome Iginla didn’t have much of a career but Corey Millen has turned into a player that everyone is vying for. Surely I jest.

Jarome has had a wonderful career with 488 snipes and 526 assists thru 1120 games in the Cowtown. Chances are he will end his career in the same area code. But if history continues to repeat itself, the C of Flame will end up dealing him, with heavy hearts, and lighter wallets, to a team needing a great leader, competitor and winner at all levels, to get them thru the Stanley Cup grind with more depth. As hard as it is to say, perhaps Jarome has earned and deserves that opportunity.

I won’t dare delve into the possible trade partners nor give legs to any of the rumors that are running around the twittersphere, but we’ll wait and see what the GM and his trusting sidekick John Weisbrod decide to do. Let’s pray that they handle it much differently from the Dion Phaneuf trade execution. Yuck. That one “Stings the nostrils” - Anchorman.

If the Flames go on a tear and win the Western Conference please disregard any of the above.

With certitude,

Scooter Nazarov (Little kooky as a coach in the KHL?)

Thoughts on trading Iggy…..  For every poor bastard that picked the schmuck, please oh please trade him away.  No way can Iggy help anyone win a draft if the overpaid rec leaguers around him can’t score.  Or skate or pass well for that matter.  Wether they get good players or draft picks or even new bulbs for the score clock lets get this done.  Took Iggy second round in our fantasy he draft and his team mates are killing me.  BRUTAL…

Who knows maybe a top line winger is hiding back on the point.  JayBo could very well be a good forward.  He has yet to see the post season since he got rid of his Edmonton Minor Hockey Jersey, but hey that happens.  Once anyway, just to him actual, I think.  I think the last time Jaybo played in a playoff game was also the last time he threw a check.  Maybe just maybe forward is calling his name.  Just can’t hear it above the Edmonton City Police sirens.  I thought I was a drunk in my youth.  Speaking of drunks… Another guy who could potentialy be trade bait is Captain Morgan Kiprosoff.  The Eggs sitting on the counter down at the Corona get less pickled the Anaheims former backup. Just talking about Kipper is getting me thirsty.  A nice Crown and Coke while I watch HNinC.

Jay Fish or Jay Feast or who ever has their hand on the string.  Give it a pull and let some of us fantasy guru’s who picked Iggy way too early have a chance.
