Devils center Ryan Carter has learned that there will be no disciplinary action taken after his hit against Carolina’s Jaroslav Spacek. During the play, Carter was issued a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct.
You can watch the hit here. Sorry for the crappy video, but you can still get the jist of it.
I am very surprised that nothing will come of this hit. As soon as it happened I had already come up with it being about a two game suspension.
You can read Carter’s thoughts after the jump.
Per Rich Chere of The Star Ledger:
“I’m glad (Spacek) is OK. He’s not hurt. If he’s hurt, then you feel bad. You never want to hurt another guy, especially in a vulnerable position like that. If he’s OK I think that helps the case a little bit. I don’t think he missed a shift, so that’s a relief for me, too.”
Carter admitted he was worried right after the hit.
“No question. I sat there right after the hit and it was, ‘Oh, geez.’ It’s one of those tough spots where he whiffed on the original pass. If he doesn’t whiff on it, the hit is fine. But it happened pretty quick. It’s a tough spot. He could’ve easily been seriously hurt. The fact that he’s not is a relief.”
“Do suspensions feel like they’re more common? I think the answer is yes,” Carter said. “I think it’s something that the players wanted. You have to take care of the heads with all the head shot calls, trying to get them out of the game. And it might be a ripple effect into other hits that don’t necessarily affect the head.
“In the end, if it makes the game safer for players it’s not a bad thing. Like I said, I think the heads bring player safety into awareness. A hit like that is probably pooled into a player safety issue.”
Josefson cleared for contact:
After two months of rehab from a broken clavicle, Jacob Josefson has seen the necessary doctors and has been cleared for contact during practices. He broke his clavicle after crashing into the boards on Oct. 22. With much anticipation and hope, he could possibly make his return in another month or so.

About Devil's Advocate
I am an all around NHL fan. I love to watch Atlantic Division, and root for the Philadelphia Flyers. Just because I cheer for the Flyers, doesn’t mean I don’t keep up with the other teams in the division, specifically the New Jersey Devils. Devils Advocate will provide you with the most important Devils news, filled with my opinion about the selected topic.
