Sitting In 9th?  Here’s What You Do…Play Your Worst Game Of The Year.

Best thing about last night is that I fell asleep halfway though it.  West coast games suck and suck hard.  I’m 41 and employed. There is no way I should, or can, stay up until 0100 on a Tuesday…errr, Wednesday.

From what I saw, what I’ve read and the weird chills I had when I woke up this morning?  Everyone was disgusting last night.

And Uncle Mike? That includes you, too.

I’m just about done with the Brad May love fest. Just about there.  I’m running out of rationale as to why he’s taking a spot from someone who could place a puck in a net.  Ville Leino?  I know.  Oh god I know.  We’re not happy with him either.  But if I had to quantify his chances of scoring, when compared to those of Brad May? It’s at like a million percent.

And, yep, I know.  I’m fully aware who the Wings were playing last night.  The big, bad Ducks.  Oh, the menace that is Cory Perry.  And don’t forget Mike Brown.  And…who?  Yeah, there were some fights but c’mon. This is not the Poultry we used to know and hate. This is a shell of that dirty team. This team is downright docile compared to the days of Sasquatch and Rob Niedermayer.

In other words, what the faux were you thinking Mike?

You didn’t know the Wings are having trouble scoring?

McCosky

“I saw him yesterday, before we practiced, shoot it top corner with a wrist shot from the far end and I thought, ‘Geez, we could use him,’ ” coach Mike Babcock said. “I haven’t seen a whole lot of that going on this year.”

Uncle Mike’s talking about The Mule at practice yesterday. But here’s a newsflash: we’re not going to be seeing much of that from Franzen any time soon. And you won’t see it at all from Brad May.  I get the need. I do. I understand the whole “keep the flies off” thing (most over-used Babcock quote in history).  But when you’re sitting five points out of the 8 spot, the flies aren’t worrying me all that much.  What concerns me is that the swatter doesn’t score.

If Leino’s in there last night, do the Wings win?  Nope.  They looked so bad, across the board, that one alleged “sniper” wouldn’t have made a difference.  But man, I just don’t get that decision in the first place.

Keep the flies off through puck possession, Mike.  That’s a nice repellant.  Oh, oh…and here’s another.

How about converting on the power play from time to time?  That might, you know, keep the flies away.  Might scare them off if they think the PP’s gonna swat ‘em after they attack.

Are we blaming Mike for that?  Not really.  We know all about Nick Lidstrom’s scoring woes. But how about Brian Rafalski?  1 goal his last 22 games.  Awesome.  I’m no pharmacist, but if the PK doesn’t have to worry about missiles from the blue line does that make it easier to stop a power play?

Truly a disgusting “effort” from a team fighting to, you know, get in the playoffs.  And I say that having really only been fully awake for the first period.

Done.  Next?  LA.  No 3 point games. No OT losses.  We can’t afford those things against a team we’re chasing.  2 points, free and clear.
