More On The County Fair:  No Wings Invited?

Updated 2043 with the international reaction at the bottom.

Edit: 2000 ESTKhan(!) now reporting that the league did, in fact, invite at least one anonymous Wing.

NHL spokesman Gary Meagher said in an e-mail that attempts were made to get another Wing. They wouldn’t reveal which player. But certainly the league would want a player from the Wings to participate, especially since every other team is represented.

If true? That renders the rest of this post kind of…irrelevant.  But, unlike some of our beat writers (Ansar?), I’ll go ahead and leave it as is so you can see how this whole thing evolved.

Original post below.

You can just go ahead and give it up to Matt Saler, of On The Wings fame.  From the comments of our post earlier, the one where we point out that NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman may have had a nocturnal emission whilst dreaming of a Wing-less All Star Game.

Paranoid, eh?  Typical Wing fan rhetoric?  Baseless claims you say?

Check this out.

Apparently, John Hahn doesn’t know of any invitations being extended to anyone on the team (one of the beat writers tells me - asked not to be directly quoted until they further verify). Surely the PR director would know and wouldn’t lie about it. I’m on the verge of being very, very pissed. If one of the players or someone else doesn’t speak up real soon….

That is Saler in the comment section of the post I mentioned above, the one about Gary Bettman and his adolescent…issues.

And from Khan(!)?

Club spokesman John Hahn said he wasn’t aware if the league asked any other Wings to replace Lidstrom and Datsyuk for the game.

Let me break it down for you.  If this pans out the way it looks like it might?

Then Nick Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk opted out of the All Star game due to injury (legit or not in Lidstrom’s case, St. James says “elbow”) and then Little Gary Bettman, commissioner extraordinaire and his competent band of execs, decided inviting other Wings to replace them wasn’t the best idea.

No anti-Wing bias there, eh?  Nobody deserving?  Franzen, Rafalski, Hudler, HOSSA?  Are you frigging kidding me?

So.  Just fact checking here.  No Wings will be at the County Fair in Montreal.  Detroit is the only team not represented.  Because no Wings were invited after Datsyuk and Lidstrom announced they weren’t playing.

That is, if Hahn is correct and if the anonymous Digger doesn’t unearth anything more.

And if all that is true, who’s going to argue that there isn’t an anti-Wing bias in Little Gary’s Playhouse?

Of course, the bottom line?  No Wings at that farce is great for us because (a) it lets us laugh at Gary even more, (2) it allows everyone to rest up and (c) it’ll make 12 that much sweeter.

As always, it is absolutely great to be a Wing fan, eh?

Had to throw this in here.  I have no idea what this guy’s saying, although I think his english is better than Homer’s.  But if you look closely, you might be able to get the gist of it.  Oh, and if that doesn’t work, the picture should pretty much give it away.

Worldwide baby. They’re digging us world frigging wide.
