GDT - Game #3:  Red Wings host ‘Nucks (8:00)

What a glorious time to be a Michigan sports fan.  JV and the Tigers in the afternoon, and Red Wings tonight.  The last time the Wings took to the ice, they were fishing in shantys on Lake St. Clair (or it seems that way).  Apparently the Wings used their 4 days off the learn how to skate faster.  The Red Wings brain trust also have designs on giving new meaning to whiskey and dick, and perhaps another tag line.  Lets put one of our slowest forwards on the point of the #2 PP unit, what could go wrong?

The darlings of the Canadian media are 1-1-1, Bobby Lou is a sieve, they are coming off a 5-4 loss, and Kessler is out.  Game On, bitches.

Khan(!):

Babcock said Tomas Holmstrom will return to the lineup tonight. He wasn’t sure which two forwards will be scratched or when Fabian Brunnstrom will make his Red Wings debut.

More Khan(!):

Detroit is 0-for-9 on the power play, prompting Babcock to make a slight change. He is going to use four forwards on the second unit, as Jiri Hudler will replace Jakub Kindl.

Defenseman Niklas Kronwall will man the lone point spot in an umbrella formation.

“I’m not getting Huds on the ice enough,” Babcock said. “On power-play situations, I’m going to put Huds and Kronner together and then Huds and Mule (Johan Franzen) can get switching in and out of the middle.

“I’ll have (Danny) Cleary at the net and (Valtteri) Filppula, so we’ll have a different look on our second group than our first group.”

The first unit features Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom up front and Nicklas Lidstrom and Ian White at the points.

What is the old saying, desperate times call for desperate measures?

Words you haven’t heard in a long time for $500, Alex.
I’ve yet to see a game this year and the lil dude has a baseball tournament Championship game tonight… so hopefully I can get us to 3-0 by not watching.

Pavel Datsyuk bobble-head night. Time to see how lucky this promotion will be. I’ll be putting the game wrecker on the line again. Gonna be a tough matchup. Enjoy the LB.

Tigs need a miracle tonight, and its name is Verlander.  I’m counting on them to prolong my heart condition for at least a couple of weeks more, goddammit.

Still, let’s see what the changes hath wrought with the Wings tonight.  Oompa’s never been on the point on the PP before, one might say for obvious reasons, but then, they probably told the first guy who tried to milk a cow that he was crazy too.  Guy’s got to fit in somewhere, right?

Ah yes, glad the Wings are back.  It feels like forever.  Thank you for the GDT, Okie Jeff.

Hope for some improvement on the PP tonight and hope we just pepper the heck out of Bobby Lou.

I have a really dumb question, after years of having DirecTv, I’m back with Comcast and am trying to figure out how you get the Center Ice channels in HD, if anyone has any tips, I’d appreciate it.

Heh, I’m grabbing one to give to my Granma (Pav is her favorite player), but I’ll try to snag a couple of extras. Apparently they’re only for the first 7,500 fans so that might be difficult, but I’ll do what I can.

Your provider will pick which (if any) HD feeds they will run a night.  Sometimes with Cox I’d get 1 or 2, most often, none.  Yeah, it sucks.

I was arguing this point over on another board, and I don’t want to do the same here because it’s exhausting…

... but Babcock never said Hudler would play the point.  They’re going to be attempting an umbrella formation with Kronwall at the blue line, Cleary at the net, and I have a feeling Filppula, Franzen, and Hudler will be cycling around the ice trying to opportunities.

I also don’t think this is necessarily an indictment on Kindl’s play; rather, Babcock wants to get more skilled guys on the second unit in a different formation to throw off the opposing PK.  That, much to the dismay of some, includes Hudler.

“Media Darlings”?  That’s idiotic.  The Canadian media hate the Canucks and spent the playoffs assasinating their character while ignoring the other teams.  They don’t get mentioned now without slander.
ps. the media is concentrated in Toronto, and they are fairly bitter over being such a long running joke.
