GDT - Game #35:  Red Wings at Predators (8:00)

DET (21-12-1) head to NSH (18-13-4) riding a two game losing streak (road), and playing just .500 hockey in their last ten tilts.  The Wings have lost five of their last seven away from home, and are in the midst of a road-heavy stretch, playing nine of 11 games on the road (Dec. 19-Jan. 10).  To make matters more interesting, DET now find themselves 3rd in the Central, and their next four games are against Central Division rivals, including tonight at NSH.  DET host STL on Tuesday and again on Saturday, in the traditional New Year’s Eve game. Sandwiched In between, the Wings visit Division leading CHI on Thursday, in their first meeting of the season.

The Predators are 6-2-0 in their last eight overall (both road losses).  They are coming off a 6-3 defeat at DAL on Friday which saw Pekka Rinne pulled after allowing three goals on seven shots in 12:30.  NSH are trying for their sixth consecutive win at Bridgestone Arena tonight.  Despite getting pulled in DAL, Rinne is 6-0-0 with a 2.86 GAA in his last seven starts (Anders Lindback took that loss).

Time to right the ship, including a PP that is 0-8 in the last three games. LGRW.

This week could very well determine the season for the Wings.  All are division foes, have a bad week and they may well be staring up at the BBBB’s in the standings.  Have a good week and they get some distance from these teams.  Because the Wings are so schizoid this season I’ll predict 2 wins and 2 losses.  Boy I hope I’m wrong.

I’m not a big believer in the “back-to-back games spell doom on night two” theory, but if there is some credence to it, the schedule may dictate a .500 outcome in the next four games.

Thanks Okie.  Slow starts spelled doom on the road trip.  Even in the game they won at Edmonton they were lucky not to be behind 4-1 after 1.

I currently live in Virgina and while we’re all originally from Michigan I have several close relatives living in Alabama whom I visit at least once a year.  The drive takes me through what is apparently the unwashed armpit of the south: the region between Knoxville and Chattanooga, Tennessee.  It smells really, really bad.  I don’t know what the odor is but I wouldn’t want to live there.

I have traveled in many parts of the country (north, south, east coast, midwest, west, and northwest), but nowhere else have I encountered such a widespread and persistent foul stench such as is encountered in that area.

If we are lucky enough to get a PP tonite, we are due. Law of averages and all that.

Thanks OAkie.

Anyone have links for the feed, please post ‘em as soon as you know something, please…

I too am visiting relatives this year, and I’m stranded in Central Minnesota.  Don’t really want to be stuck watching the Wild implode as per the handbook.  At least I can hijack the computer in the basement.  LGRW!
