GDT - Game #34:  Red Wings at Flames (9:30)

About the only two good things you could say about DET’s 4-2 loss at VAN, the Wings gave up only 25 SOG (while registering 40 SOG) and didn’t allow a PPG against (quite simple when you take 0 penalties).  The game was all but decided in the 1st period as DET’s defensive coverage was almost nonexistent, of course VAN’s somewhat controversial SHG was a game-breaker. If you are of the mind that last nights tilt was a measuring stick of sorts, DET’s game certainly has room for improvement.

The ‘Hawks 5-1 win last night puts them 5 points clear of DET (Wings have two games in hand, this being one of them), making tonight’s road game a little more important.  The Flames (15-15-4) are a mediocre team, that can’t shoot (28.4, 24th) can’t score (2.47, 25th), and cannot win a draw (45.5%, 30th).  For reason’s unknown, DET cannot score on the road - averaging a mere 2.44 goals in 17 road games (compared to an NHL-best 4.19 at home).  The Flames are 6-0-1 in their last seven at home.  The Wings will have their hands full tonight.

Merry Christmas you bitches, and Let’s Go Red Wings.

Disappointing loss last night.  Especially given that they just didn’t show up at all for the opening period, putting themselves squarely behind the eight ball right off the hop.  The fact that Luongo was in mid-season form (as opposed to post-season form) sealed their fate.

Time to dig deep and grind out a bounce back win on the road on the second night of a b2b.  These are character-defining games for a team.

I finally got a Wings game on Center Ice in HD and they cough up a dud.  Hoping for a nice, strong game tonight.

Thanks, Jeff.  Echoed many sentiments from last night’s first period barf-fest.  This game becomes a little more important today just for the sake of keeping up in the Central.  Wings had an opportunity to gain some real estate on the B’Lose and failed to earn it.  We definitely need tonight’s two points.

Thanks, Okie.

i’m not interested in hearing anything about “tired” or B2B or ‘jet lag’ or blah, blah, blah ...

no excuses: start on time & finish; 60 minutes; earn the “W”.

Thanks, Okie!

As Stonehands said:  “No excuses.”  The Wings need these two points.  Rest can begin tomorrow.  Our well-rested Conk had better be on it tonight.
