GDT - Game #28:  Red Wings host Jets (7:00)

DET (17-9-1) host the soaring Jets (13-11-4), who have won eight of their last 11, tonight at JLA.  The Wings are nearly unbeatable at the Joe this season, their 11-2-1 (.821) home-mark lead the league.  DET have been getting great production from their #2 line since moving Filppula and Hudler up alongside Zetterberg.  Filppula has six goals and three assists in his past six full games.  Zetterberg has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in his past nine games, after struggling much of the season. Hudler has picked up eight points (two goals, six assists) in eight games. Babock praised Hudler’s game:  “I thought Hudler has been real good this last little bit.  I thought he was real good in St. Louis (Tuesday), maybe as good a game as he’s had in a long time.”  Interestingly, Zetterberg’s comments on Hudler were more cautious:  “He’s got an opportunity to play a little more and he’s been taking advantage of it. Right now he’s doing the right things.”

The Red Wings have won eight consecutive games at home, while scoring less than four goals just once during the win streak.  Since the 1999-2000 season, no team has a better record against the Eastern Conference than the Red Wings (129-50-9-12).

The Jets have got to be feeling good. They are riding a four game streak that includes wins over PHX and BOS.  In their 4-2 win at home last night, WPG pulled out to a 4-0 before surrendering two third period goals to the ‘Canes.

After Friday practice, Babcock confirmed that Datsyuk will play tonight.

Homer will be wearing a mic during the game, for sure.

I really need to do some Christmas prep stuff today, clean and rearrange house and go get a tree.

I wouldn’t mind stringing more elaborate outdoor lights like I used to, but with rain and wind each December they just quit working, or some strands.  Anyone know any more reliable or rugged outdoor survivable lights?

Anyone ever use the Bethlehem LED lights?  They are more expensive but LEDs don’t use much power, some of them are battery powered, but don’t know if they last and survive outside any better.

can’t offer much info on ‘more rugged’ lights, but do want to suggest some caution if you’ll be working on a second floor level ...

(actually, a friend sent me that pic a few yeras back. the “person” is really a mannequin and was put there as a prank. it looked a bit too real, 911 was called by a passer-by and the authorities asked that it be taken down or a ‘this is fake’ sign be put up so they won’t be contacted again. funny shtuff!)

I’m doing my best to delay doing anything constructive.  The NHL Standings are a cluster.

One good thing for the Wings, they are tied with most wins in regulation and overtime in the west, a tiebreaker for standings and home ice.  Several teams have winning records and are out of the playoffs right now, only a couple of teams really are stinking and pretty much already will be impossible to make the playoffs, ANA 8-15 and COL 8-16.

Let’s remember that you can take the Red Wings payroll, then you have to add $5 Million to equal that of Columbus.

I know we already all know this, but the ONLY stat where the Wings are not in the top ten… imagine if they could right the PK ship!

Thanks! Always read ‘em although I rarely comment.

hahaha looks like Clark Griswold in “Christmas Vacation”.  I used to climb out a second story window and hang a giant star outside, but no more.

Christmas Vacation - classic comedy.

The PK is outright shameful.

If you find out, don’t let me know. I’m using that as an excuse to not put up outdoor lights this year.

As for the game, well, the Jets played last night, so they should have weary legs tonight, which means a Wings victory. Right?

Right??

Plus, they got into Detroit at 4 AM and didn’t practice today.  Should take them awhile to get their legs going.  Hope, hope, hope.

Thanks, Jeff.  Stuff like the following…

Since the 1999-2000 season, no team has a better record against the Eastern Conference than the Red Wings (129-50-9-12).

...goes unnoticed and/or unreported in other GDTs.  Great stuff.

That record must scare the shit outta the East.

Thanks OAkie.
