GDT - Game #11:  Red Wings host Flames (7:30)

Detroit (5-4-1) have dropped five in a row, and are sitting 12th in the WC.  During their slide they have scored 5 total goals.  They have scored 23 goals to date this season, their lowest output after the first 10 games since 1975-76.

Here is the kicker; the Red Wings are averaging an NHL-best 35.8 shots per game. I’m sure you have also noticed that the Wings, when they do manage to get in the offensive zone, are settling for one and done.  Nick Lidstrom has:  “We’ve taken a lot of shots, but we’re not getting there for rebounds and the ugly goals, the kind you get when you’re on a roll. You’re squeezing your stick too hard and pressing too much. That’s showing of late.”

About the only bright spot during the implosion has been Jimmy Howard, who has single-handedly kept the Wings in the past three games:  “I think Howie’s been unbelievable. . .” We got to do a better job for him. I think our goaltending’s been excellent,” said Babcock.

CGY (2.30 G/G) are as offensively inept as DET, so this tilt could be as ugly as the last one.  Losing streaks suck; but at the end of the day, they are just games.  However, it is past time to win one of them, and maybe score more than one lousy goal.  LGRW.

It is just a game:

Two more soldiers from the Oklahoma National Guard were killed this week in Afghanistan, bringing the total number killed there since their deployment began to 14. Killed in action were Pfc. Sarina Butcher, 19, of Checotah and Spc. Chris Gailey, 26, of Ochelata. Butcher was the first woman from the Oklahoma National Guard to die in fighting since women were allowed to join the Guard in 1971, according to a release from the Oklahoma National Guard. She was also the youngest Guard soldier to die in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Both died Monday in Paktia province when their vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device.

May God hold them and their families in the palm of His hand.

When the Wings are having goals disallowed, NUMEROUS questionable penalties from the referees, it’s just a slump.  But it sure looks like there is not a level playing field (at least the last two games).

The Wings may need to make a trade.  Even if it’s only a bottom 6 forward, it sends a message to the other players.

Happy back to the top line?  Gawd, he’d better produce.

Still a little sorry Nyquist was sent back down.

And glad to see Jimmeh getting well-deserved recognition from Uncle Mike.

Putting the gamewrecker on the line for tonite and Saturday. But since all the games are already wrecked, am I still liable? I’m 2-0 on the season.

Sick of the bullshit. We need a couple wins.

I’m considering a Valium an hour before puck drop.

That way if we suck, it won’t seem so bad. If we are awesome, it will seem even awesomer.

Sorry, “more awesome” just didn’t work for me in that last sentence.

Hudler hat trick tonight?

Hudler hat trick tonight?

I sure hope so… he reportedly tosses it like a boomerang and it lands back on his head.  Wait… what?  You meant the other kind?  Good luck with that.

Does it count as a shot on goal for Hudler if it goes in off his face?

Wait… I’m not even mad at Hudler. I don’t know where that came from.

Looks to me that Babcock is trying to breakup the non-shooting old #2 line; and get them paired up with someone that will shoot the damn frozen biscuit.

Great work as usual Okie. Godspeed to the families of those fallen heroes.

I really don’t understand our Uncle sometimes. Why is Eaves sitting while the Unabomber continues to drop proverbial bombs against his own team? And Ericsson’s higher on the depth chart than Kindl? Whatever I guess, just get the freaking W tonight.

Hell yeah.  Old school.  Bring back one of Draper’s better offensive maneuvers.

Why is Eaves sitting…

Supposedly Eaves was injured…but then again, supposedly Cleary is too and he’s still playing…on the top line no less (though the top line looks more like Datsyuk was demoted to the 2nd or 3rd line than anything else…).

Bad bad feeling about tonight.
Voices inside my head are saying they should go with Conklin tonight.
Only because Jimmy is due for a stinker.  He has been playing awesome, and nothing to show for it.
Wings could break out tonight with 4 goals, and give up 5.

Thanks, Okie…

Which?  A Red Wings SOG, or an actual Good SOG?  Because a Red Wings SOG isn’t a good one…

I get the feeling that this is the Transition Game tonight.  The skaters play well enough, but maybe Howie has an off game, and they lose anyways.
