Breaking: Denver To Retire 14 Different Numbers Tonite

I’ll be on the beach for tonite’s history making evening in Denver, but I did find this ditty, just released moments ago…

In what promises to be a stirring ceremony in front of 4,321 fans at the Pepsi Center this evening the Denver Avalanche hockey club will retire all numbers between 18 and 31. Historic figures such as Jeff Odgers, Warren Rychel, Marc Denis and Scotty Parker are just some of the former icons who will see their numbers raised to the rafters.

Fan favorite Mike Ricci will provide opening remarks, but could not be reached for comment.

A lot of teams are lining up to make tens of dollars with this idea.

I haven’t been paying attention, so please help me out: from my recent perusals of the interwebz, it appears that the Blackhawks are the favorites to win the Central.  Why?  The Wings lost Brian Rafalski to retirement, but otherwise their core is intact, and their additions were not chopped liver.  What have the Blackhawks done to warrant the belief they can overtake Detroit?

bRIAN rAFALSKI MADE UP 80% OF dETROIT’S OFFENSE AND iAN wHITE SUCKS. cHICAGO IS OVER THEIR cUP HANGOVER AND RETOOLED. dETROIT’S CORE IS ONE YEAR OLDER AND cHICAGO’S CORE IS ONE YEAR MORE-EXPERIENCED.

jOEL qUENNEVILLE KNOWS WHAT HE’S DOING.

The most logical explanation. I thought maybe I had missed something.  Nope- same as it ever was (love the “Wings are old, Blackhawks are more experienced” bit).

It’s hard sometimes.  You see stuff like that all over the place, you start to think there has to be a logical reason for it.  Ahh, to be naive.  Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

What’s hilarious is “we still have the CORE” was the Butthawks fan’s first and only comeback after their team was dismantled after their lucky cup run.

I guess when Detroit still has it’s CORE the arguments not the same, eh?

Assholes.
