I’m sure exactly none of you were shocked to discover absolutely nothing on this blog early this morning. And you know as well as I do that if the Wings had won yesterday, there would have been all sorts of activity. Witty, juvenile inside jokes. Pot shots at the Poultry and probably a few at the Blues and Dive fans because that’s what I do when I’m happy.
Instead I spent most of the morning in some sort of…state.
I don’t even know what to call it. I sat on the edge of my bed for a long time, then I sat on some chair I didn’t even know we owned for about twenty minutes downstairs, just staring. Just a little bitch letting one OT loss send me into a motherfu**ing tail spin as if the world was over.
Well, I’m done with that.
Because there is no way in Hell that team is going to beat my team. None. There is no way a one-line team with a highly overrated group of defensemen is going to take three more games out of the next five.
I know that to be fact. But I also know this: certain things have to happen if I’m going to invite happiness back into my life.
I won’t belabor the Rafalski thing. Yes, he must return quickly. 5 defensemen are not going to cut it.
Datsyuk must improve. I think he’s hurting. Hossa must improve. He has to make an impact.
Holy cow. I had no idea Boston lost. Just went to NHL.com looking to pull some Hossa stats and saw they were shut out. Interesting. Makes me feel kinda warm.
Back to Hoss. 9 shots yesterday, one of them a one-timer that could have brought us great pleasure. And his first shift was amazing. He hit all five Ducks and I think spit on the Swiss boy. But in between that shift and that near game-winner in OT? Not much. At least not much that I could see.
And did I mention that I think Datsyuk is hurt?
Helm isn’t. My god. What a little force Taz is. He’s a frigging monster out there. Yes, we’ve all likened him to Draper. But I see much more of an offensive upside. He’s gonna start popping them sooner or later. His speed creates so many chances.
Hiller made 62 saves, or was it 59? I don’t care. I’ll tell you this: he’s no Giggy and no Kipper. More of a Roloson, if we’re comparing him to goalies who have made our worlds darken. Those rebounds…so plump and juicy.
Discuss this game. Ruminate on it even, if you’d like. Stress about it, and we will. Obsess because that’s what we do. But I’m telling you right now that the Wings owned that team yesterday, and if not for a completely unfocused, uninspired and pathetic first two periods? They win it without OT. And, no, Anaheim’s performance had nothing to do with how Detroit played the first two periods. They were flat. And we know it because we’ve seen it sixty times this year.
They won’t be flat again. I don’t see that as a possibility. Not this series.
I’ll be back later. Time to find Dr. Lilo Suarez and beat him to a pulp. I think he’s down in Mexico City. Don’t worry. I’ll wear a mask.

About Abel to Yzerman
Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
