Speaking of idiots, another Monday morning and one more reason why Gary Bettman is an absolute joke. Look. I don’t care that Evgeni Malkin wasn’t suspended. I think it would have been funny and the tearful sobs from Pittsburgh would have been pleasant to listen to. But, really? A hockey player was pissed off so he started a fight. No one was hurt. Nobody’s any sadder or happier because of it. It’s hockey.
But the problem, as always, boils down to this: the league butchered this isolated incident like they’ve butchered so many others. And why is it just a few of us who understand that accountability for an organization must start at the very top? It has to. It’s why the Lions are an abject, utter failure…because accountability has never rested with Ford, Sr.
Well…when you have your discipline czar releasing a statement last night saying that the league has decided not to follow its own rules…that’s just embarrassing and it’s Bettman’s fault. A suspension would have been idiotic, but it’s the rules. Gary’s own rules. He was called for instigation. Final five minute instigators go to timeout for one game. It’s written. Nevermind. Read between the lines. You have to…read…between…the lines. If we don’t understand why they “rescinded” the suspension? That’s our fault.
Hey. Maybe Gary and the GMs decided last year that if an instigator penalty is called in the SCF, no suspension will follow, despite what’s written. Did you guys “discuss that a year ago” Gary? Like you discussed the back-to-back games? You know, the conversation nobody remembers but you? Hey maybe you can talk about it this year at the Awards Show. You know, the one you scheduled in Las Vegas because that’s exactly the kind of backdrop you want for a celebration of hockey, the last professional sport with any character or ethic left. Hey, it’s close to Phoenix…where everything’s all good, eh Gary?
I’m going to say this again. Malkin showed fire and more than a little frustration. It happens and it’s acceptable. It’s hockey and logic says he doesn’t deserve a suspension. But the rule, like so much else about Little Gary’s league, is idiotic, illogical…but there in black and white. And because it wasn’t followed, you have people drawing parallels between the NHL and Gary’s Daddy’s league, The Association…where stars are treated like untouchables…unpenalized and creators of their own rules. Kobe Bryant’s got 5 technicals, and has for a few weeks. If he ever got to 7? One game suspension. What’s the likelihood of that ever happening?
There are owners in this league who want to make this happen. A few of them are strong enough to voice a need to get rid of this incompetent little power hungry tyrant. Of course they won’t. We know they won’t. There aren’t enough of them with balls. Mike Ilitch can only scream so loud and he only has one vote.
I just hope something like last night doesn’t happen tomorrow. I just hope millions watching on televisions across the world don’t see another NHL humiliation. Oh, wait.
Right. Game’s on Versus tomorrow. If you’re in a hotel you probably won’t see it. Or if you’re in a hospital room like The Big Rig was last week? You won’t see it there, not even in Detroit.
Fire this little troll. Do it.

Welcome to Abel to Yzerman, a Red Wing blog since 1977. No other site on the internet has better-researched, fact-laden and better prepared discussions than A2Y. Re-phrase: we do little research, find facts and stats highly overrated and claim little to no preparation. There are 19 readers of A2Y. No more, no less. All of them, except maybe one, are juvenile in nature. Reminding them of that in the comment section will only encourage them to prove that.
