via IslandersPointBlank,
The Columbus Blue Jackets have plucked Wade Dubielewicz off the waiver wire. Columbus, without Pascal Leclaire, was the other NHL team that really wanted the goalie.
added 12:55pm, from Greg Logan of On the Islanders Beat,
Shortly after Wade Dubielewicz came off the ice at the Islanders’ pre-game skate this morning at the Coliseum, he received a telephone call from general manager Garth Snow informing him that he had been claimed on waivers by Columbus.
“I thought he was joking at first, but he wasn’t,” Dubielewicz said. “He was disappointed, and I’m disappointed.”
Dubielewicz quickly packed his gear and headed out to catch a flight to Vancouver to meet the Blue Jackets.

Blue Jackets assistant general manager Chris MacFarland said the move does not indicate that Pascal Leclaire will miss the rest of the season because of his ankle injury. That determination is still being made.
“We needed a goaltender,” MacFarland said. “We needed an insurance policy. We’ve gone the last two weeks with the bare minimum.”

from Greg Logan of On the Islanders Beat,
The Islanders have reached an agreement with former goaltender Wade Dubielewicz on a contract for the rest of the season for the pro-rated portion of a $500,000 annual salary, according to an NHL source. The club has indicated plans to provide an update later today on the condition of starter Rick DiPietro, but the signing of Dubielewicz is a strong indicator that DiPietro might be done for the season because of continued swelling in his surgically repaired knee.

from Greg Logan of On the Islanders Beat,
In the surest sign yet that the Islanders might be close to shutting down goaltender Rick DiPietro for the season after just five starts, general manager Garth Snow said the team has held exploratory talks with the agent for former Isles goaltender Wade Dubielewicz, who recently was bought out of his contract with Ak Bars Kazan of Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League….
Told that Dubielewicz is talking to at least three NHL teams with goaltender problems, Snow said, “I guess we’re one of the three. We have to see what happens with Rick first before we do anything.”

Confirmed- Dubielewicz Heads To Russia

from On the Islanders Beat,
When one door closes, another one opens. The only problem for former Islanders goaltender Wade Dubielewicz is that the door to his future is located halfway around the world. On the other hand, Door No. 2 will pay him much more than what he would have received to remain in the Islanders’ organization.
Agent Kurt Overhardt, who represents Dubielewicz, confirmed reports his client has signed to play with AK Kazan in the new Russian Continental League that is starting up this season. Overhardt declined to discuss specific terms of the deal, but it’s likely his client will make several times what he did after taxes on the $500,000 contract he received from the Islanders last season.

From Greg Logan at Newsday,
Popular backup goaltender Wade Dubielewicz, who helped the Islanders reach the playoffs two seasons ago, is among a group of unrestricted free agents the club plans to let go. General manager Garth Snow said no offers have been made to forwards Miroslav Satan, Ruslan Fedotenko and Josef Vasicek because of the need for roster space for a youth movement, and “Dubie” rejected the offer he received.
“We made a significant offer that he turned down,” Snow said of Dubielewicz, who had a 9-9-1 record last season with a 2.70 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. “We wish him the best.”
