Todd Fedoruk Trying To Get Back In The Game

from Tim Panaccio of CSNPhilly,

Yet being cut by Tampa was a “blessing in disguise,” Fedoruk said, because his life had been unraveling around him between the stops in Anaheim and Dallas and Minnesota and …

“It needed to happen so I could get myself back on track,” he said.

“I had a history of battling some things away from the game … battled some demons off the ice. I had to re-prioritize my life. After that settled down, I got myself back on track.

“When I was young and growing up … I always had trouble finding my niche where I fit in. After some dark times, I had to go away to a place and learn some things about behavioral issues and some type of diseases I may have.”

Fedoruk had an alcohol addiction that began at the age of 20 in the Western Hockey League.

JJ’s Three Cheers: 10/10/10

Today’s three cheers for those who deserve as much from their performances of a night ago:

***Cheers to Derek Stepan of the New York Rangers, who burst onto the NHL scene last night with a hat trick in his first career game. Dallas’ Fabian Brunnstrom was the last player to manage three goals in his NHL debut and Stepan became the fourth player in league history to accomplish the feat. That it came against the reigning Vezina Trophy winner in Buffalo’s Ryan Miller, too, makes the performance that much more impressive. If Stepan’s contributions in the early-going are any indicator, New York will fare far better than some of us may have predicted.

The ‘Hot’ Fridge

from John Shipley of the Pioneer Press,

At 29, Todd Fedoruk finally is becoming the hockey player he always has wanted to be. It’s happening just in time for the Wild.

Desperately seeking goals in a tight, physical playoff series with the Colorado Avalanche, the Wild have scored two that can be traced to Fedoruk within a degree of separation: his power-play goal in Game 1 and Pavol Demitra’s long slapper in Game 2, which sneaked by a Fedoruk screen.

The two goals perfectly encapsulate what Fedoruk is giving the Wild as they prepare for Game 3 on Monday night at Pepsi Center in this best-of-seven, first-round series — size, grit and toughness, with an occasional touch of offense.

added 5:10pm, Tom Lynn, Asst. GM for the Wild on the Fedoruk pick-up via Russo’s Rants,

“The general manager is not happy where we are right now, so he’s made this move (Fedoruk). Some guys will have to step up or there will be other moves.”

High Praise For Holmgren

from Philly Burbs,

It’s easy to get caught up in the nightlife, the wrong crowd.

To have someone like Holmgren as a role model can help steer a young player back onto the right path.

“He’s a very highly respected person, not only in the hockey world but in general,” Fedoruk says. “It’s the way he carries himself; a lot of people want to carry themselves the way he does.

“I myself am one of those people. The respect he’s gained and the amount of work he’s put into his personal life . . . he’s a guy who leads by actions. You want to follow a guy like that. He’s a loyal person…..”
