Yankee Stadium for 2010?

From Stan Fischler at Game On,

While Yankee Stadium would appear to be a sure thing for the NHL’s 2010 outdoor game, much will depend on how well the 2009 Wrigley Field (Chicago-Detroit) Classic draws at the gate and on TV. Another hang-up could be negotiations with the Yankees over use of their new ballpark because it won’t be cheap.

Another battle will be over choice of the Rangers’ opponent. Guaranteed, the Islanders and Devils will fight hard to get into the act.

Advice for Glen Sather

From Stan Fischler at Game On,

If I’m Glen Sather, I tell Jaromir [Jagr] that he will be paid something in the range of a 20-25-goal scorer; what the going rate will be for that. Thus, the captain will have to demonstrate that he REALLY wants to stay in New York and is willing to accept a diminished role suitable to his age; otherwise he will not be a good fit on the club. If Jagr is not willing to accept this, then it may be a case of au revoir, old buddy.

And, guess what, it would not be the end of the world for the Blueshirts.

Fleury at Fault

From Stan Fischler at Game On,

Let’s not get carried away with the Marc-Andre Fleury phenom stuff. One prominent goalie coach tells us that if anyone cost Pitt the series, it was the Pens’ netminder. “He started the series badly and that’s how he ended it—with two terrible goals in Game Six. The second [rebound] goal was bad and he had no business letting the puck go through his legs before he eventually knocked it in on the winner. By contrast, Chris Osgood made the saves that he had to make.” The bottom line on Fleury is simple; his consistency is missing.
