Shea Theodore Facing A ‘Routine Procedure’ For A Lump In His Testicle

from Shea Theodore at The Players' Tribune,

“Well, we can schedule the surgery for next Tuesday.”

The doctor said it just like that.

And I was like, “Wait … what? So … do I have it?”

“The scan shows a five millimeter by five millimeter lump in your testicle. It’ll be a routine procedure. Once we take it out and do a biopsy, we’ll know more about the type of cancer. But you’re young, and we caught it early.”

So, yeah. Three months ago, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Crazy, right?

Shea Theodore Signs A Seven-Year Contract With The Vegas Golden Knights

VEGAS (September 24, 2018) - Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee announced today, September 24, that the team has signed defenseman Shea Theodore to a seven-year contract through the 2024-25 season worth an average annual value of $5,200,000.

Theodore, 23, had 29 points (6G, 23A) and 14 penalty minutes in 61 games during the 2017-18 regular season. He appeared in all 20 games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, including the Stanley Cup Final, recording on 10 points (3G, 7A) with eight penalty minutes. In his three NHL seasons, Theodore has skated in 114 games and has recorded 46 points (11G, 35A) to go with 44 penalty minutes.

The Langley, British Columbia-native was acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights via a trade from the Anaheim Ducks during the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft.

Still No Contract For Shea Theodore

from David Schoen of the Las Vegas Review-Journal,

Restricted free agent Shea Theodore remains unsigned less than three weeks from the start of training camp on Sept. 13, and the situation is inching toward the danger zone for a possible holdout by the 23-year-old defenseman.

“We’ll hopefully have Shea under contract soon, and we’ll see how that goes over the next few weeks,” general manager George McPhee said Aug. 8 in an interview on Fox 1340 AM. “He’s in a unique position in that he doesn’t have arbitration rights. … So, this might be a little bit different. It might take a little longer, but it’s something that certainly he would like to have done and we’d like to have done.”

Since McPhee made those comments, not much has changed.

It’s unclear if the two sides are far apart on salary or whether the stalemate centers on Theodore’s desire for a long-term deal similar to the one defenseman Brady Skjei received from the New York Rangers this summer (six years, $31.5 million) or defenseman Damon Severson signed with New Jersey in September (six years, $25 million).
