Pahlsson Set To Make Blackhawks Debut On Wednesday

via Tim Sassone of Between the Circles,

Hawks coach Coach Joel Quenneville said after practice Monday that Sammy Pahlsson would make his Hawks debut on Wednesday at Columbus.

Meanwhile, Nikolai Khabibulin will start again Tuesday in New Jersey when Devils goalie Martin Brodeur goes after his NHL-record 552nd career victory.

The Hawks are actually looking forward to trying to deny Brodeur his place in history - at least for a few days.  “It’s going to happen. We’d just like to postpone it,” Coach Q said.

Pahlsson Skating Again

from Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune,

Sammy Pahlsson, acquired in Wednesday’s trade with the Anaheim Ducks, said he could join the lineup in a week or so “if everything goes really well.”

“Just a quick one on the ice to get a feel for it a little bit,” Pahlsson said. “I haven’t skated or worked out for a long time. I have to get some strength back and get used to skating and being on the ice again.”

The Pahlsson Plan

via Tim Sassone of Between the Circles,

Sami Pahlsson will report to the Hawks on Sunday, but he won’t play for at least another week or two.

“He’ll be out for a little bit here,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “I think he’ll start skating soon and once we get him on the ice we’ll rehab him here.

“He’s training and working off the ice and building himself up at a better pace the last few days. I spoke to him (Thursday) and he’s excited about it, but I think we’ll get a better indication when we get him here.”

Pahlsson The Type Of Center Chicago Was Looking For

from Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune,

“This day was different for myself and our staff [because] we were buyers and not sellers,” Tallon said as he addressed the media at the United Center after acquiring center Samuel Pahlsson from the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman James Wisniewski. “Buying is a lot more fun than selling, believe me.”

The Hawks targeted a veteran center who is tough defensively, wins faceoffs and has postseason experience. Pahlsson fits the bill.

The 31-year-old hasn’t played since Jan. 31 because of mononucleosis and is up to three weeks from joining the Hawks’ lineup, but the Hawks have their sights set more on the postseason than the final 20 games of the regular season.

Pahlsson Out With Mononucleosis

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,

Center Sammy Pahlsson, out of the Ducks’ lineup since Feb. 2, has mononucleosis and is week to week, a club spokesman said after the team’s game-day skate in advance of tonight’s game against the Kings at the Honda Center.

The Ducks had previously said only that he had a viral infection.

Pahlsson, a valuable two-way player who has centered the Ducks’ stopper line with Travis Moen and Rob Niedermayer the last few seasons, will be examined again next Tuesday. He can’t skate again until he’s cleared medically, and after that would need another week or so to get in shape.

Pahlsson Out With Viral Infection

via the Anaheim Ducks,

Ducks center Samuel Pahlsson has been diagnosed with a minor viral infection and will be a out minimum of two weeks.

Pahlsson was scratched from Anaheim’s 3-2 victory over Buffalo at Honda Center on Monday night after complaining of an illness. It was the first game he had missed all season. He was examined Tuesday morning and did not accompany the team to Minnesota for the start of its three-game road trip.

Pahlsson Has Seen Ups & Downs In His Career

from Chris Foster of the LA Times,

Pahlsson’s career seemed headed down a much different path in 2002. He walked away from the Ducks, and the NHL, after being sent to the minor leagues. He hoped to be traded, or, at the very least, released from his contract so he could play in Sweden. Bryan Murray, then the Ducks’ general manager, did neither and Pahlsson cooled his heels for two months.

“I don’t know if it was the right decision to leave,” said Pahlsson, who turns 31 on Dec. 17. “But it was the right decision to come back. Maybe I had to go through all of that to learn what I wanted out of life and hockey.”

Pahlsson’s next big decision should be a lucrative one. He is an unrestricted free agent and has a hefty reputation as an annoying obstacle to opposing players….

“If I have to test the market, I will,” said Pahlsson, who is making $1.4 million this season. “At the same time, I love it here.”
