Southeast Division Statistical Previews by Position: Forwards
by Jon Jordan on 08/08/10 at 11:12 PM ET

As the new season approaches, I’ll be making an effort to preview the Southeast Division in a slow and steady, comprehensive manner. To kick things off, I thought I’d take a look back at last year’s individual player statistics, updated to reflect this summer’s off-season transactions. (In other words, for example, we’ll group Dustin Byfuglien’s 2009-10 statistics with Chicago alongside his new Atlanta Thrashers teammates and their performances from last year.)
In short, we’ll look at last year’s stats with this year’s rosters, both by division as a whole and by individual teams, broken down by position… Because a look to the recent past can often be a good indicator of what’s to come. (Often… Not always. See: Cheechoo, Jonathan.) And, besides, I don’t know that you’ll find a list like this in too many places (at least I hope you won’t… Cause that would mean I spent too much time on all of this!)
To get things started, we’ll start tonight with the forwards.

Olesz Out With Broken Hand
by Paul on 02/10/10 at 09:24 PM ET

via George Richards of On Frozen Pond,
If last night’s loss wasn’t “brutal” enough, the Panthers also lost winger Rostislav Olesz in the final minute or so to a broken hand.
Coach Pete DeBoer said today that Olesz is getting X-Rays to see how serious it is, but he’s out through the Olympic break at the very least.
As far as those trade rumors for Olesz, well, I’m not sure how true those were. Olesz has a big, long contract and for another team to take that on, the Panthers would likely have to take on someone else’s problem in return.
Now, as far as other players go, I would think guys like Jordan Leopold, Dennis Seidenberg, Gregory Campbell and Kamil Kreps are in play. What they would bring, I don’t know. I don’t think the Panthers are going to do anything until the deadline because, what sense does it make? Play tomorrow’s game against the Canucks and then make a deal?

Surgery For Olesz
by Paul on 01/21/09 at 10:28 PM ET

from George Richards of the Miami Herald,
Florida Panthers general manager Jacques Martin said winger Rostislav Olesz needs surgery to repair a sports hernia that already has cost Olesz six weeks of his season.
Olesz was injured Dec. 4, with the original diagnosis being a pulled groin. Olesz returned to practice a few weeks ago before being shut down after the pain failed to subside.
