Lang On The Coyotes

from Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic,

With a nasty injury behind him, veteran center Robert Lang is eager join a Coyotes team that he says could be a surprise this season.

“I think people look at this team and say, ‘Oh, yeah, it’s a younger team and last year and this and that,” Lang said, “but I think they have a real solid goalie (Ilya Bryzgalov), and if you look at this team now, they have a few veteran players and the younger guys are a year older, have a year behind them. If we do our job, we could do well.”

If Canadiens Go Deep Into Playoffs, Lang Feels He Could Return

from Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette,

Lang suggested that, if all continues to go well and the Canadiens hang around the playoffs for a spell, his season might not yet be finished.

“If everything’s perfect and the team plays long enough, then it’s possible, yes,” he said of a postseason return.

“If everything goes according to the rehab protocol, it could be 10 weeks, 12, maybe 14, who knows. I have no idea when I’ll be able to skate, but it is possible to come back and still help the team if we stay in the playoffs.

“Get to the playoffs and hey, anything can happen.”

Fourteen weeks from the date of surgery is May 11, one month after the Habs’ final regular-season game.

Costly Loss For The Canadiens

from the CP via TSN,

Montreal also lost its goal-scoring leader, centre Robert Lang, likely for a long time as he had a tendon in his left heel sliced by a skate after a harmless looking hit into the boards on Stephane Yelle 8:33 into the third period.

And then winger Guillaume Latendresse left at 17:28 with what appeared to be a shoulder injury after he slid hard into the boards while checking Chuck Kobasew.

Lang A Big Positive For Canadiens

from Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette,

With 10 goals, Lang is the Canadiens’ leading goal-scorer heading into tonight’s game against Buffalo; with 24 points, he is tied for the team lead with Alex Kovalev and Andrei Markov.

He is a crafty, smart-skating, 906-game NHL veteran whose poise and experience are precious commodities both on the ice and in the dressing room, a terrific acquisition on many levels.

“(Some) people think he was a consolation prize (to Sundin), but we had started to talk about him a little bit last year,” head coach Guy Carbonneau said yesterday of Lang.

“We took some info from Denis Savard (Lang’s coach in Chicago last season), some people who’d had him, and everything was positive. He has a lot of respect and came in here with a really good attitude.”

All Robert Lang

from Kevin Mio of the Montreal Gazette,

When you walked into this famous dressing room for the first time, what were your thoughts?

“It’s fun. Like I mentioned Detroit, and it is very similar to that. It’s an old arena and you have the old pictures, the same as here. You have the old players with the current ones, so it’s a good blend.”

The Canadiens are the fourth Original Six team you have played for, after Boston, Detroit and Chicago. How does this compare with the others?

“Detroit was very good, as far as the history there and all that stuff.

Chicago was a little bit different, but it was a really young team, so it was just a little different feel on the team. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but it was just a lot of young guys and a rebuilding process. And then here, obviously, you have history on every corner and then it’s the centennial year on top of that, so it’s very exciting.”

Lang A ‘Good Fit’ In Montreal

from Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette,

Lang will be reunited in Montreal with Alex Kovalev, with whom he enjoyed great productivity in Pittsburgh. In his best NHL season, Lang scored 32 and assisted on 48 more in 2000-01 with the Penguins; linemate Kovalev had a career-high 44 goals and 51 assists that year.

“Montreal is a great hockey town and you can’t really be in a better place to play,” Lang said. “Alex and I had a great time together in Pittsburgh. Hopefully, we can revisit (that) chemistry.”

He sees his role as that of an experienced skater who will be “a good fit (on a club with) a lot of talent, speed, excitement and skill.”
