Morning Line- Ray Bourque

The only regret I have is not winning in Boston. You know, we went to two Finals in '88 and '90 . . . The first year we didn't really match up well at all — we had no chance. The second year, we had a very good chance. I thought we matched up really well and that was really disappointing not making it more of a series in '90 because I thought we had enough. We had a really good team and character guys and that was very disappointing and then you know not getting back there, obviously. But we had good runs in the late 80s and early 90s so that was fun and we had a nice core of guys with an incredible chemistry as a team.

But yeah, that's the one thing. I lived it as a fan in 2011 when they won. I knew when I won in 2001 in Denver [I was] always thinking about this, I said, 'Can you imagine winning this in Boston?'

And when they won 2011 it was crazy and it was so much fun to be a fan. But then in other ways, you're like man I would love to live that because everything I lived in Colorado, that was tremendous. I had an incredible time there for 15 months and winning there. But then you're like, well imagine this in Boston and it certainly was the case when they won in 2011.

Ray Bourque Statement

via Celebrity Marketing Inc,

“For the first time in my life, I find myself in unfamiliar territory. I am not happy about the situation I put myself into on Friday Night. I am a very proud person that accepts the responsibility of my actions and have always accepted being in the media eye. I have used this popularity to try and positively impact as many lives as possible. I am happy that no one was hurt in the accident and thank everyone who has reached out in support of my family and me. Please be patient as I go through this process and respect my family and my privacy.

Thank you all for your understanding.

Sincerely, Ray”

Ray Bourque Or Bobby Orr?

from Colin Fleming of Sports Illustrated,

Orr’s teams underachieved, in the sense that they never became dynastic. Instead, they had a run of two Cups in three years. A run is different than a bona fide dynasty of the kind the Canadiens had, and the go-go-go pace of the regular season, with Orr’s headlong, driving rushes down the ice and his mad scurries back towards his own end, to dispossess a rusher of the puck, might have had something to do with it.

That aforementioned forward would be caught unawares, the biscuit would no longer be his, and Orr would be swiftly headed towards the attacking zone, seemingly all in one motion. Thrilling. And unlike anything you would ever see at the rink. But, so was, on its whole, Ray Bourque’s career.

Bourque was Boston’s other great defenseman, a magisterial, super smooth stalwart who nonetheless has always been cloaked in a touch of shadow. Everyone agrees that Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux, and Howe, in some order, are the four best players in league history. But even an Orr-lover could argue that Bourque’s career, on balance, as a guy you’d want to have around for 20 years as your team’s benchmark, puts him in a discussion for the fifth best player. And if you had a choice of Orr’s career, or Bourque’s, and you were a GM who was like the overlord on high, picking teams to do battle for all time from your misty mountain, you could well go with Bourque rather than the vaunted #4.

Morning Line

“I’m a huge fan. I’m in there probably 70 percent of the time watching games. When you have an organization like the Bruins that’s contending every single year, that makes it exciting. You have high hopes and high expectations. Obviously last year was a little disappointing with an early exit against Montreal.

“But the thing that they have in place with the core of the team is exciting for fans, and for management too. They’re always looked at as one of the teams that should be contending. I remember around this time year you’d be getting excited for camp, and there’s only a few weeks left. You get back into that work mode, and this time of year always kind of brings me back to that.”

NHL 12 Update: New Legends Video, Winnipeg Uniform Info, and New Quick Clips

Earlier this afternoon, some NHL 12 fans on the internet found a new Legends video, posted exclusively on the EB Games (now GameStop) webpage for NHL 12. However, the video was kind of “hidden”, thankfully over the time it took for me to write this update, there has been a new link to this new video released by EA Sports in an exclusive with GameStop’s official site, which makes it much easier to find, and is of much better quality that the original one that was found.

Read on, as I’ll provide a link to this new video ( UPDATE - Days later, I finally have the video included in this post ), which reveals several bits of juicy new info on the Legends, including what their team uniforms look like, some info about unlocking them, and best of all, what their overall ratings will be! Also included in this update is some additional news about the Jets’ new sweaters potentially not being in the game upon release, and some new quick-clips about HUT and the EASHL.

NHL 12 Overnight Update: The First Three Official Legends

In what was fairly foreseeable, EA Sports in partnership with GameTrailers TV revealed yet another short teaser about the “Legends” coming to NHL 12. Saved for the very last segment of GTTV’s half-hour block on Spike TV. This confirmed a few highly suspected things, and also killed other possible rumors… but did give us some solid new info for sure.
