from the Press & Sun-Bulletin,
A tough loss was overshadowed by a terrifying injury Friday night, as Binghamton Senators defenseman Patrick Wiercioch was hospitalized after being hit in the throat by a puck during the first period of the Norfolk Admirals’ 5-1 win at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Wiercioch was struck by a clearing attempt during a power play three minutes and eight seconds into the game. He immediately dropped to the ice and needed several minutes before being helped to the runway by trainer Glen Kinney and captain Mark Parrish.
“I’ve heard that he’s being attended to,” B-Sens coach Kurt Kleinendorst said after the game. “I know he’s in capable hands. We don’t know much more than that. We’ll just keep him in our prayers.”
