The New York Islanders announced today that Nick Leddy has agreed to terms on a seven-year contract, signing through the 2021-22 season.
The 23-year-old defenseman has 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists) with a plus-12 rating in 61 games with the Islanders this season. The Eden Prairie, MN, native leads all Islanders defensemen in goals, ranks second in points and plus-minus rating and has appeared in every Islanders game to date.
“Nick has proven to be an elite defenseman in this league at a young age,” Islanders General Manager Garth Snow said. “He’s the type of player on the ice, in the locker room and in the community that we’re thrilled to add as a cornerstone of our defensive core.”...
“We have something special in this locker room and I’m excited to be a part of it for seven more years,” Leddy said. “From the start of my time here, the Islanders have been a first-class organization. I’m honored by their commitment to me and look forward to challenging for the Stanley Cup for years to come.”

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have acquired defensemen T.J. Brennan and Ville Pokka and the rights to restricted free agent goaltender Anders Nilsson from the New York Islanders in exchange for defenseman Nick Leddy and goaltender Kent Simpson. Brennan and Pokka will report directly to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League, while Nilsson will remain with Ak Bars of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Defenseman Nick Leddy might have played his last game in a Blackhawks sweater.
After the Hawks’ 3-2 shootout loss Friday to the New York Rangers — the second consecutive game in which Leddy was a healthy scratch — coach Joel Quenneville sounded like someone who didn’t expect to have the 23-year-old defenseman on his team for much longer.
‘‘We’ll see,’’ Quenneville said.
The Hawks are above the salary cap and have until Tuesday afternoon to get below it, and Leddy has been at the center of trade discussions all summer.

Well that time of year has arrived again!
No, not Santa Claus bringing home the goods.
No, this is better, well at least for one international hockey team that can wrest World Junior Hockey Gold from its opponents.
I’d love to hear any predictions on who will win gold.
In the meantime, I hope everyone has a great holiday season with their loved ones!
