The Calgary Flames announced today that Karri Ramo has a torn ACL and meniscus damage, out for the season.
Here is how the injury happened...
from Kristen Odland of the Calgary Sun,
The drama continued with Ramo’s injury which, according to Flames head coach Bob Hartley, does not “look good.”
He indicated Ramo would not play Friday night at Phoenix which means they may summon an American Hockey League goalie (Joni Ortio?) as a replacement.

Many Habs fans were left confused on Monday night when the Canadiens traded Cedrick Desjardins, arguably the best goalie in their system after Carey Price, to Tampa Bay for Karri Ramo, a goaltender who has not succeeded in previous NHL stints and is currently committed to Omsk of the KHL.
Well, now we have an answer as to why the deal was made.
The Habs just dealt their top goaltending prospect, Cedrick Desjardins, to Tampa Bay for the rights to Karri Ramo.
Karri Ramo, he of the KHL and the sub-.900 save percentage in every NHL try. Ramo, he of the currently-under-contract-in-the-KHL.
Cedrick Desjardins, he of then stellar AHL numbers and all star appearance last year.
Why did Pierre Gauthier just do this?
Why do bad things happen to good people?
Habs fans, there are some things we just aren’t meant to understand.
This is one of them.
from Damian Cristodero of Lightning Strikes,
Mark Gandler, the agent for goaltender Karri Ramo has signed a two-year deal to play for Avangard Omsk of the Russian Kontinental Hockey League. Gandler said Ramo, a restricted free agent who was to be the backup for Mike Smith, has been told he will be Omsk’s No. 1.
“Of course,” Gandler said. “He wouldn’t go over there otherwise.”
Gandler said Ramo’s contract (he would not divulge the value) has an option that would allow Ramo to opt out after one season.
from the Tampa Bay Lightning,
The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled goaltender Karri Ramo and defenseman Jay Leach from the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced. Leach has been recalled on an emergency basis.
