"We love his coaching resume and are confident that he has learned from every stop during his career, and has the best skill set to get the maximum potential out of our team."

"This is a tremendous opportunity to join an organization with a history of success, a team with immense talent and a phenomenal fanbase," Hynes said. Coaching Change In New Jersey

from the New Jersey Devils,

The New Jersey Devils today announced that they have relieved John Hynes of his head coaching duties. Alain Nasreddine will become Interim Head Coach and Peter Horachek, currently a pro scout for the team, will join the coaching staff as an assistant under Nasreddine. The announcements were made by Devils' Executive Vice President/General Manager Ray Shero.

Alain Nasreddine will start in his role for tonight's game versus Vegas. He heads up the staff of Horachek and existing assistants Rick Kowalsky, Mike Grier and goaltending coach, Roland Melanson.

"John played an integral role in the development of this team in establishing a foundation for our future and we are grateful for his commitment, passion and unmatched work ethic," said Shero. "John is a respected leader, developer of talent and friend which makes this decision difficult. We are a team that values and takes pride in accountability to the results we produce. We are collectively disappointed in our performance on the ice and believe changes were needed, starting with our head coach. I have been consistent in my desire to build something here in New Jersey that earns the respect of teams throughout the league and pride in our fans. That is not where we were heading and for me to tolerate anything less was not acceptable."

John Hynes On The Hot Seat

from Larry Brooks of the New York Post,

When ownership becomes involved in hockey personnel decisions and its prime acquisition is presented as a social-media marketing vehicle, there is little time and little patience for slow starts.

This is the case in New Jersey, where the Josh Harris-David Blitzer combination at the top of the directory enthusiastically encouraged — how’s that for a euphemism? — general manager Ray Shero to pull off the deal for the Spirit of 76, who arrived with a boatload of charisma and as one half of a sports celebrity power couple with fiancée Lindsey Vonn.

There is PK Subban, there is first-overall draft selection Jack Hughes, and there is Taylor Hall, one of the league’s elite players who is a pending free agent and who certainly isn’t going to sign up for a program that doesn’t produce results.

Hall has been in the playoffs once since entering the NHL with the Oilers in 2010. The Devils have been to the playoffs once since 2012. Coach John Hynes has taken the team to the postseason once since taking over to start the 2015-16 season.

No captain, no problem for Devils

Via NHL.com, his report from NJ.com's Rich Chere isn't exactly surprising:

The Devils' equipment managers haven't begun sewing a 'C' onto the jerseys of Andy Greene, Adam Henrique or anyone else.

That's because the Devils may not have a captain this season.

"There is no rush for this. I'm not sure we'll have one," general manager Ray Shero told NJ Advance Media. "Maybe we will. I don't want to paint myself into a corner by saying we'll have one and we don't, or we won't have one and we do."

If they do decide to name a captain, who will make the pick?

"If we choose a captain it will be a combination of the head coach (John Hynes) and myself," Shero said. "If we pick one out, it will be after due consideration. And hopefully it will be the right choice."

If the Devils get younger this season, wouldn't a captain be important?

"I don't know. John and myself have never been here before with these players, so it's hard for me to answer. We don't know the players yet," Shero said.
