Todd McLellan on Sports Night


Last week, Drew Remenda asked Todd McLellan some questions for Sports Night.  The Sharks’ coach talked about the team’s offseason moves, last season, and his expectations for this season.

TM on acquiring Burns:

We really liked the opportunity, we jumped at it.  He’s not only a short term fix for our team, given the fact that he can stay healthy, we believe that he can be a long term fix as well.

McLellan also detailed all the other nice things that are so evident about Burns: temperament, age, talent and size. The team was happy to get him.  Burns is already making it clear why Wild fans were so attached to him.  Fear the Fin did a nice piece on that.  Yes, Coach, we like him too.

Reported Flames Signings: Glencross and Vandermeer

The Calgary Flames have raided the roster of their northern rivals. The club today will officially announce the signing of Edmonton Oilers forward Curtis Glencross (see last night’s entry for more details), who scored 15 goals in 62 games this past season.

No terms yet, but one unconfirmed report suggested the deal is for three years and $3.2 million.

The Flames are also expected to announce the signing of incumbent defenceman Jim Vandermeer.

Update 12:55pm ET: The above signings have been confirmed by the Flames via press releases a few minutes ago. Additionally, the Flames also signed Peter Vandermeer.

Flyers Trade Eager To Chicago For Vandermeer

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired defenseman Jim Vandermeer from the Chicago Blackhawks.

Blackhawks General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the Blackhawks have obtained left wing Ben Eager from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for defenseman Jim Vandermeer.  “We wanted a high energy player for our fourth line and Ben Eager is that kind of player,” Tallon said.  “He is just 23 years old, he can skate and heis a very gritty player.”
