Ken Holland Has Tried To Move Jess Puljujarvi Who Has Signed To Play In Finland

from Mark Spector of Sportsnet,

From cold to colder, dark to darker, Puljujarvi will take his talents to the Finnish Elite League’s Oulun Karpat, a powerhouse in the league that sits a level below the Kontinental Hockey League, which lies some distance below the competitive level of the National Hockey League....

As for this season, he has until 5 p.m. ET on Dec. 1 to sign his Q.O., or he cannot play in the NHL in the 2019-20 season. (You’ll recall the William Nylander negotiations stretching to the final moments last season.)

By later November, Karpat will have played some 24 Liiga games, a decent sample from which Oilers general manager Ken Holland can fashion a trade — assuming Puljujarvi shows as a dominant player in Oulu.

"I don’t know that him signing in Finland has a huge effect on the situation," Holland said on Tuesday morning, adding that is better for everyone that Puljujarvi is playing somewhere rather than holding out. "I’ve had conversations with numerous clubs that have had interest, some interest, in acquiring Jesse. And I have had, probably in the last 10 days, two or three new teams reach out to me. Teams whose positions have changed, and are checking into the Puljujarvi situation.

"I’ll do a deal if I feel good that I’m making a deal in the best interests of the Edmonton Oilers."

Jesse Puljujarvi Looking For A Top-Six Opportunity

from TSN,

Jesse Puljujarvi is looking for fresh start this summer away from the Edmonton Oilers and told Finnish television station Laari he's hoping that includes a top-six role with his new team.

"I want a team where I get a place in one of the first two lines and where I get to play for 15 minutes per game. Then I could show what I'm going for. That is my main goal," Puljujarvi said, via Google Translate.

Puljujarvi's agent, Mark Lehto, has maintained throughout the summer that his client's No. 1 priority is to play in the NHL next season, but has left the door open to playing in Europe if the winger is not traded by the Oilers.

The 21-year-old admitted to Laari that he has struggled with English since making the move to North America in 2016. "Language has been a challenge for me. I've always been successful, but it would be fun if things went better," Puljujarvi said.

Lehto told Finland's MTV Sports earlier this month that a trade remains possible, or even likely, but moving the former No. 4 overall pick for a return that satisfies the Oilers is proving difficult.

The Latest On Jesse Puljujarvi’s Situation In Edmonton

from David Staples of the Edmonton Journal,

This in from Jesse Puljujarvi’s agent Markus Letho on Vancouver Sportsnet radio 650 with an update on Puljujarvi’s situation.

As to the suggestion that Puljujarvi was headed back to Europe this year, Lehto said, “First off, I’m not sure that Jesse is going to go back to Europe. I don’t think Jesse himself ever, or I don’t think I did, ever told anyone that unless he’s traded he’s for sure going to be back in Europe.

“What Jesse has been saying to (Oilers GM Holland) Kenny and everybody else, and what I’ve been saying, is we just don’t think it’s going to work out any more. He could definitely benefit from a fresh start. I think he deserves a fresh start. I think he has done everything that Edmonton coaches, management, they had a plan. He went down three times to the American League. Every time he played excellent and he was brought back up, right?

“It’s very unfortunate, I think that it’s been in the media a little bit, in Jesse’s mouth there has been put all kinds of words and in my mouth too. I never actually said anything. We’ve been having a really good dialogue with Kenny Holland about the trade possibility and obviously I’ve got so many teams calling me, asking what’s going on. Obviously nothing has happened yet.”

Asked about giving it a go with new Oilers GM Ken Holland in charge, Lehto said, “Well, that’s something that really kind of makes Jesse and really myself think that he should try and go back. But at the same time it’s a lot like a confidence issue here.

Hip Surgery For Jesse Puljujarvi

The Edmonton Oilers announced today forward Jesse Puljujarvi will undergo hip surgery and will miss the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

Edmonton Oilers Assistant General Manager Keith Gretzky says, “This injury has been bothering Jesse for some time now and after careful consideration with Jesse, his agent and our medical staff, the best decision was to have the surgery and miss the remainder of the season.  We expect Jesse to rehabilitate and train throughout the summer and be 100 percent ready to go for training camp in September.”
