Jason Demers has reached agreement on a $22.5-million, five-year contract with the Florida Panthers, Sportsnet has learned.
The right-shooting defenceman was a highly coveted commodity on the free-agent market and garnered multiple offers when the signing period opened Friday. Florida is believed to have entered the process somewhat late after the first wave of deals passed without him agreeing to one.

The Stars continued to shake up their defense Friday, sending Brenden Dillon to San Jose for Jason Demers and a third round draft pick, according to an NHL source.
Dallas already traded Sergei Gonchar to Montreal last week and lost Kevin Connauton to Columbus on waivers this week, so this makes the third defenseman to leave in the first two months of the season.

SAN JOSE, CA - San Jose Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson announced today that the club has re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Jason Demers (@JasonDemers5) to a two-year contract.
"Jason has been a solid, offensive defenseman and is coming off a good season," said Wilson. "His skill set and his age mesh well within our overall group and we're happy to have him signed for two more years."

“Jason’s puck-moving capabilities and competitive nature fit well with where our team is trending,” said Wilson. “He is very capable of executing the up-tempo style of game we want to play and we see him as an important part of our team.”
