Morning Line

“Even toward the end of her beautiful life she would constantly ask about other people.  Made sure they were tended to and taken care of, even though she was the one lying in the bed, more or less fighting for her life. Fight she did. My mother was no quitter. A courageous lady filled with deep faith and optimism ...

“She left this world with peace and dignity, which was the way she lived it.”

-Nick Foligno of the Ottawa Senators.  More on Nick’s mother Janis and coverage of the funeral from the Sudbury Star.

Wife Of Mike Foligno Passes Away

via the Sudbury Wolves,

It is with heavy hearts that the Sudbury Wolves Hockey Club announces the passing of Janis Foligno, wife of Wolves Head Coach and General Manager, Mike Foligno on Monday evening after a courageous battle with cancer.

Janis was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt and friend. She was a great person to know, to talk to and to be with. She was also a great friend of the game of hockey.

Janis was born and raised in Sudbury as a member of the Giacomin family and her uncle, Eddie Giacomin, is recognized as one of the NHL’s greatest goaltenders.

Janis married Sudbury’s Mike Foligno and raised four wonderful children - Cara, Nicholas, Lisa and Marcus. Nick now plays for the Ottawa Senators while Marcus was recently drafted by the Buffalo Sabres.
