Report- Sale Of Coyotes To Jamison In Doubt

from Scott Burnside of ESPN,

Former San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison, the main suitor for the Phoenix Coyotes for the past year, cannot produce the capital needed to purchase the team from the NHL and as a result a Jan. 31 deadline to maintain a critical lease agreement with the City of Glendale will pass without a deal being completed, multiple sources have told ESPN.com.

A separate group of investors is prepared to step into the void created by Jamison's failure to produce the money he repeatedly insisted he would deliver to complete the deal, but the question is whether Glendale officials will agree to extend the lease agreement to a new group given that it was Jamison who negotiated the terms of the highly contentious lease deal.

Does Jamison Have The Money To Buy The Coyotes?

from Mike Sunnucks of the Phoenix Business Journal at The Sporting News,

Prospective Phoenix Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison has until Thursday purchase the hockey team from the NHL.

Otherwise time runs out on the latest city of Glendale arena deal that helps Jamison’s group buy the Coyotes.

Glendale approved a $308 million arena deal in November. Jamison has until Jan. 31 to buy the Coyotes from the NHL otherwise the city deal and money goes away.

Jamison continues to be very private about whether he has the money to close the deal and where the money is coming from to buy the team.

That has always been the problem with trying to close the Coyotes deal and keep them here. The money, financing and investors have not yet come together to close a deal.

Report- Greg Jamison Secures Financing To Purchase Coyotes

from Scott Burnside of ESPN,

A source confirmed to ESPN.com Tuesday evening that suitor Greg Jamison, the former president and CEO of the San Jose Sharks, has finally arranged financing that would allow him to purchase the team from the National Hockey League for $170 million, and that any issues with the lease agreement between the City of Glendale and Jamison's investors for Jobing.com Arena, where the Coyotes play, are expected to be resolved by the end of September.

Among the investors, who have to this point remained unidentified, are some members of the Ice Edge Group, a collection of Canadian and American businessmen who at one point were front-runners to buy the team themselves, the source told ESPN.com.

Another Obstacle For Greg Jamison?

from Mike Sunnucks of the Phoenix Business Journal,

Greg Jamison still doesn’t have all the cash needed to finalize his purchase of Phoenix Coyotes hockey team from the National Hockey League and then also operate the franchise after a sale.

Operating capital could be the newest obstacle facing the Jamison purchase and the Coyotes tenuous situation in Glendale.

Essentially, the prospective Coyotes owner needs the money, financing or favorable sales terms so he can pay the bills, meet payroll and keep the lights on after a sale.

The Jamison camp and other backers of a Coyotes sale still say a deal could get done soon if more capital is raised or an accommodating deal is worked out with the NHL.

Does Greg Jamison Have The Funding To Buy The Coyotes?

from Mike Sunnucks of the Phoenix Business Journal

(Bill) Daly also dismissed speculation this week that Jamison now doesn’t have the money or financing to buy the team or that the NHL was looking at cutting the sale price or some kind of special financing to get the deal done.

But confidence in the deal is waning, even among some Coyotes boosters.

Several sources in Arizona familiar with the Coyotes machinations and supportive of Jamison’s bid are asking with concern why a deal hasn’t been finalized, where Jamison’s money is coming from and who his partners are.

Hanging over all of this is the fact that the $300 million Coyotes-friendly arena deal approved by the city of Glendale can’t be signed by Jamison until he buys the team.

Video- Gary Bettman and Greg Jamison Talk Phoenix Sale

Watch both videos below, the first one is Gary Bettman.

Bettman basically said they have reaced a tentative agreement with Greg Jamison to purchase the Coyotes but still need Glendale City Council approval and hopes to have a deal in place.

added 9:40pm
, from David Shoalts of the Globe and Mail,

There may be a tentative agreement between the NHL and Greg Jamison to buy the Phoenix Coyotes but many unanswered questions remain along with some formidable hurdles.

The biggest questions are about money: Does Jamison, the former president of the San Jose Sharks, have the financing among his partners to not only pay the purchase price but cover the millions of dollars in losses the suburban city of Glendale cannot? How will Glendale come up with as much as $20-million (all currency U.S.) to pay Jamison in each of the next four or five years as an arena management fee and an average of $16-million over the 30-year lease?
