My question, why fight at that point of the game?
No update on Parros at this point...
from Craig Custance tweet,
Eric Boulton signs one-year deal with the Islanders, excited about the opportunity: “It’s a promising young team.”
NEW YORK—New Jersey Devils forward Eric Boulton has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slashing New York Rangers forward Mike Rupp in NHL Game No. 737 in New Jersey on Tuesday, Jan. 31, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
The incident occurred at 2:34 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.
On this week’s episode, Jon, Mike and Mark entertain the ongoing discussion about Tampa Bay’s goaltending, including the latest on Mike Smith’s injury, cover the war of words (and knees) between Nate Thompson and Atlanta’s Eric Boulton and wrap the show with a special Christmas gift exchange for one and all..
Listen in after the jump…
Thrashers forward Eric Boulton has never been a clean player. Several times in his career, he has delivered cheap shots, and his knee-to-knee hit on the Lightning’s Nate Thompson last week was flat-out dirty. Boulton defended himself, saying the hit was not intentional. That’s fine, he has that right. But he also said, “Who’s Nate Thompson?’‘
This, coming from a guy with 25 goals in 508 career NHL games. The only reason anyone knows his name is because it comes up every so often after one of his dirty hits. It would have been a bush-league thing to say even if a star such as Sidney Crosby or Alex Ovechkin had said that. But Boulton? Who’s Eric Boulton?

Forget Darryl Sittler’s 10-point performance of 30 some-odd years ago…
I believe it is entirely possible that Washington’s John Erskine may have had the greatest hockey game in the history of the planet last night.
No, his stat line won’t wow you but this game-winner against Atlanta was just icing on top of a cake that already included layers of an epic scrap with Eric Boulton and the all kinds of awesomeness that is the Erskine ‘stache.
Take in the fight, please:

From Ken Warren at The Ottawa Citizen,
On Thursday night against the Atlanta Thrashers, Ottawa Senators right-winger Chris Neil crossed the fine line he skates as a member of the NHL’s agitator/enforcer class.
It wasn’t the first time, it won’t be the last and, even though Neil was widely criticized for showing off to the crowd while fighting the Thrashers’ Eric Boulton in the second period and for taking a double minor penalty late in the third period, during which Atlanta scored twice—he says he won’t change how he plays the game.
“I’m here, I’m a motivator,” said Neil, taking issue with observers who claimed his WWE-style antics in waving to the crowd during the fight had no place in the game and served to inspire the Thrashers. “I get the fans going and that’s part of my job. That’s a trait I do (during) fights at home games. I don’t do it on the road. It’s for our fans. We don’t sell tickets on the road. We sell them at home.”
