LOS ANGELES – The 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Dwight King to a two-year contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.
King, 23 (turned 23 on July 5), collected 14 points (5-9=14), 10 penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating in 27 regular season games this past season. He was recalled by the Kings from the Manchester Monarchs (AHL) on February 10 after registering 29 points (11-18=29), 20 penalty minutes and plus-6 rating in 50 AHL regular season games with Manchester. At the time of his recall, King was tied for second in points and second in assists on the Monarchs.
The Kings defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 tonight and now lead the best of seven series 3-0.
The Coyotes came out in the first period and fired 11 shots at Jonathan Quick but only had 8 the remainder of the game, 4 in each of the last two periods.
The Kings played the same game we have witnessed throughout the playoffs; tight checking, key saves and at times a dominating forecheck.
The game winner was scored by Dwight King, his 4th of this series (the Coyotes have 3 goals total), early in the 3rd period.
Dwight King received 2 for boarding for this hit on Alex Pietrangelo who did not return to the game.
