SJ Sharks and the Code of Quiet

I want to talk about concussions.  I always want to talk about concussions, so I’ll do it early and get it out of the way.

Policy

I don’t know which Sharks, except for Ian White, suffered concussions last season.  There were several possibilities, lots of guys out with vaguely dubbed “upper body injuries.” Usually, no one tells us if they have a concussion.

Gagne on the Mend

From the Philadelphia Flyers,

Q: Is this a new concussion or an extension of the old concussions?
SG: “That’s a good question. The only thing I can say right now is that I don’t think it is that bad. I know the symptoms were definitely worse the last time. Hopefully I will feel better very soon. The doctor said I could feel very good in the next couple of days. I just have to take it one day at a time and see what happens.”

Q: What is the outlook?
SG: “Like I said, right now it is one day at a time. It could be a couple of days, it could be a week or it could be longer. There is no timeframe on what is going on right now.”

Ducks’ Bertuzzi Near Full Recovery

And it is possible, he said, that Bertuzzi will accompany the team to Dallas for its game Wednesday against the Stars.

“I anticipate that for the first time, we’ll have our team all together,” Burke said.
