The Toronto Maple Leafs Have Signed Cody Ceci & Alex Kerfoot

from the Toronto Maple Leafs,

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the club has signed defenceman Cody Ceci and forward Alexander Kerfoot to contract extensions. Ceci has signed a one-year extension that carries an average annual value of $4.5 million while Kerfoot has signed a four-year extension that carries an average annual value of $3.5 million.

Ceci, 25, registered 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists) in 74 games with the Ottawa Senators last season. In 440 NHL regular season games over six seasons, all with the Senators, the Ottawa, Ontario native has recorded 118 points (32 goals, 86 assists) while adding three assists in 25 career Stanley Cup playoff games.

Internationally, Ceci captured a gold medal at the 2016 IIHF World Hockey Championships while representing Canada. In 10 games for Canada, he registered a goal and five assists for six points, which was tied for second in scoring among tournament defencemen.

Ceci was selected by Ottawa with the 15th overall pick of the 2012 NHL Draft. He was acquired by the Maple Leafs in a trade with the Senators on July 1, 2019.

Kerfoot, 24, appeared in 78 games for the Avalanche in 2018-19 and recorded 42 points (15 goals, 27 assists) before registering three assists in 12 Stanley Cup playoff games.

Cody Ceci Could Be The Next Defenseman Traded

from Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen,

In the past couple of days, defencemen Jacob Trouba and Olli Maatta — both selected in the first round of the 2012 NHL draft — have been traded from their original teams.

There’s now a distinct possibility Cody Ceci could be the next defenceman from that class to move on from where he started.

Ottawa Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said earlier this week that he has held talks with Ceci’s agent, J.P. Barry, about a potential extension — both short and long-term — but Dorion is also seriously exploring the trade market for the 25-year-old defenceman.

If the return is right, it could happen in and around this weekend’s NHL draft in Vancouver.

Ceci has had an intriguing history as a homegrown talent since being drafted by the Senators 15th overall seven years ago.

For all the high points and potential that came with his early success, the mere mention of Ceci’s name is enough to set off venom among some on social media, who have often unfairly targeted him as the whipping boy for everything and anything that has gone wrong on the Senators blueline for the past several seasons.

Cody Ceci And The Ottawa Senators Agree To a Two-Year Contract

OTTAWA – Ottawa Senators (@Senators) general manager Pierre Dorion announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenceman Cody Ceci to a two-year contract which will run through the end of the 2017-18 National Hockey League season. The average annual value of the contract is $2.8 million ($2.25M, $3.35M).

Ceci, 22, established new NHL career highs in goals (10), points (26) and penalty minutes (18) while matching his career high for assists (16) over 75 games with the Senators during the 2015-16 season. Upon the conclusion of the season, he also skated with Team Canada at the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Moscow/St. Petersburg, Russia. In 10 games with Team Canada, he scored one goal and earned five assists while helping the team to a gold medal.
