Charlie McAvoy Has A Few Issues

from Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe,

Hindered of late by a nagging foot injury, second-year Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy will miss a game for the 45th time in his career Tuesday night with the Wild in town. Only 21 years old, the talented back liner has learned in full the lesson of how hard it can be to withstand the physical rigors of what is often a punishing game at the NHL level.

Off the ice, 2018-19 also has been one that has taught the former Boston University star a lesson or two in managing his time and the need to improve his discipline and punctuality.

Noting Saturday night to a Globe reporter that he was guilty of being tardy on two team-related occasions, one for a meeting on special teams and another when boarding the bus after a game, McAvoy confirmed that he was called out on his behavior by senior team leadership and that he now better understands his need to pay closer attention to the details and responsibilities of being a pro.

“I’m a young guy, and trying to adjust and learn all the right things,” a contrite-sounding McAvoy said in an interview during the club’s 2-1 win over the Sabres.

Video- Would You Call This A Questionable Hit By Zach Hyman?

via Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe,

“I thought it was late. I thought it was unnecessary,” said Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy, reviewing the hit, for which Hyman was tossed from the game. “If the league takes a look at it . . . usually they do . . . but again, it’s one of those things, you’re at a point in the game where there hasn’t been a lot of bodychecking from their team and all of a sudden there’s a late, blindside, unsuspecting one . . . it annoys you.

“Especially when it’s Charlie, you wonder, ‘Are they targeting him, or not?’ You don’t know that — I’d like to think it was just a guy who got there late and didn’t pull up.”

Video- Johnny Gaudreau Pulled From The Game By Concussion Spotter

from Eric Francis of Sportsnet,

At the tail end of a 5-2 win over the Boston Bruins there lay Johnny Gaudreau in a crumpled heap, behind the visitors’ net in obvious discomfort.

He’d been pasted by Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy split seconds after Gaudreau’s breakaway attempt was stopped in spectacular fashion.

It drew an interference penalty, not to mention a crowd, but left Gaudreau wincing as he skated slowly to the bench.

Gaudreau played over a minute in the ensuing power play before a concussion spotter radioed down to Flames athletic therapist Kent Kobelka to let him know Gaudreau was to leave the game to be checked.

He failed to return to the final 10 minutes.
