Will Salvador Wait In Line?

from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,

Defenseman Bryce Salvador would like to remain a Devil, but understands that he’ll have to wait his turn while general manager Lou Lamoreillo figures out what’s going on with captain Zach Parise and goaltender Martin Brodeur.

At the same time, though, Salvador is less than 48 hours away from being able to field offers as an unrestricted free agent.

“I think I’m third in line,” Salvador told me today. “We’ll see what happens with Zach and Marty first. There’s interest from both us and them, but there’s other things they have to figure out first. So, we’ll just kind of see how it plays out. It’s going to be an interesting next couple of days.”

A Trio Of Devils Information

image

Now that school has started for me, the ease of getting to a computer becomes limited to early in the morning, and very late at night. For my absense on the website for the past couple of days I apologize. Now that things are slowly calming down, I figured I would get back into things here on KK. I have news on the Devils bankruptcy rumor, some player who will be joining the Devils on a tryout, and some other interesting bits of information.

Salvador Out With Concussion

from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,

Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said this morning that defenseman Bryce Salvador will be out indefinitely with a concussion.

He said no decision has been made yet on whether Salvador will be placed on long-term injured reserve. That would seem to be a strong possibility, though.

“We haven’t even talked about that or discussed that,” Lamoriello said of placing Salvador on LTIR.

Salvador Undergoing Tests

from Tom Gulitti of Fire & Ice,

Bryce Salvador is still feeling the effects after sustaining a first-period hit from Philadelphia’s James van Riemsdyk in Tuesday’s preseason game, so the defenseman was sent for further testing Wednesday.

Lou Lamoriello told reporters before practice the problematic issue for Salvador involved “an ear situation” and not his head, although the Devils’ general manager indicated there is some history with Salvador and concerns with possible head injuries.

Asked for a possible timetable on Salvador’s absence, Lamoriello said: “I won’t know until I talk to the doctors.”

With Mottau Still Available, Devils Have Options

Though Lou Lamoriello still has his work cut out to get the New Jersey Devils under the $59.4-million salary cap, one area with a little flexibility might be the blueline.

While no GM would want to give up a player like Bryce Salvador, rumored by many to be one of those moved for salary relief, knowing that an insurance policy like Mike Mottau is waiting could help ease the blow.

On Friday, Lamoriello wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a return for the former Hobey Baker-winning Boston College alum.

NMC Important For Salvador

from Tom Gulitti at Fire & Ice,

Bryce Salvador is looking for stability. That’s why the 32-year-old defenseman lists contract length and a no-movement clause as his top two priorities in negotiating his next deal.

Salvador will become an unrestricted free agent at noon on Tuesday if the Devils don’t sign him to a new deal before then.

“Definitely, the most important thing is term and then the no-movement (clause),” Salvador said today. “I’m looking for that stability, especially after going through being traded this past season. We have a young son and maybe looking to have another child down the road and that stability is a big thing. After the term and the no-movement clause, then comes the dollars.”
