If you watched the game, you saw the hit that Chicago’s Andrew Desjardins put on Justin Fontaine early in the second period. Fontaine was skating along the blue line when Desjardins appeared to lunge at him, clipping him and sending Fontaine to the ice. He needed help getting to the locker room and is, according to Yeo, “week to week’’ with a lower body injury.
Asked if he thought the 2-minute tripping call was correct, here’s what Yeo said: “You don’t like a knee-on-knee hit,” he said. So, I know it’s a tough one for the refs, and I kind of understood what they were saying. But certainly I felt it warranted a 5-minute major.’’

from David Pollak of Working the Corners,
Rookie center Andrew Desjardins was near the blue line when he was on the receiving end of a high hit by Blue Jackets left wing Dane Byers early in the second period. Desjardins fell woozily to the ice, then was helped to the locker room. He did not return.
“That’s exactly what we want to eliminate from the game, exactly,” Sharks coach Todd McLellan said.
Desjardins said he was taken to what is known in the NHL as the “quiet room” after the hit, but he said after the game he was feeling much better.
“You can’t risk anything, but we don’t know anything” he said of the decision to keep him out of the rest of the game. “I feel fine, I feel all right.”
