Colorada Avalanche Sign Andre Burakovsky To A One-Year Deal

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Andre Burakovsky to a one-year contract for the upcoming 2019-20 season. Colorado acquired the 24-year-old winger in a trade with the Washington Capitals on June 28.

Burakovsky appeared in 76 games for the Capitals this past season, tallying 25 points (12g/13a).  He helped Washington capture its first Stanley Cup championship in 2017-18, returning to the lineup after missing the first two rounds and recording six points (2g/4a) in 13 postseason games.

Selected by the Capitals in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Burakovsky has tallied 145 points (62g/83a) in 328 career regular-season NHL games for Washington.  He has also dressed in 56 career playoff games, totaling 18 points (9g/9a). The 6-foot-3, 201-pound left wing recorded NHL career highs in goals (17) and points (38) during the 2015-16 season and notched a career-high 23 assists during the 2016-17 campaign.

“We are excited to be adding a big, fast, skilled winger like Andre,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President / General Manager Joe Sakic at the time of the trade.  “He already has a lot of NHL experience at a young age and is a Stanley Cup winner who has performed well in the playoffs.  At just 24 he is entering the prime years of his career and we feel with an added role, he will be a great addition to our team.”

Washington Capitals Trade Andre Burakovsky To The Colorado Avalanche

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have acquired a second and third round pick (previously acquired from the Arizona Coyotes) in the 2020 NHL Draft and pending unrestricted free agent forward Scott Kosmachuk from the Colorado Avalanche for forward Andre Burakovsky, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Burakovsky, 24, registered 25 points (12g, 13a) in 76 games with the Capitals last season. The 6’3”, 201-pound forward has recorded 145 points (62g, 83a) in 328 games with the Capitals. He was drafted by Washington with the Capitals’ first round pick, 23rd overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Andre Burakovsky Re-Signs With The Washington Capitals For Two Years

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Washington Capitals have re-signed right wing Andre Burakovsky to a two-year, $6 million contract, senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced today.

Burakovsky, 22, registered 35 points (12g, 23a) in 64 games with the Capitals during the 2016-17 season, recording career highs in assists and plus/minus (+13). In addition, Burakovsky tallied a career-high eight multi-point games last season, including a career-high three-assist performance against Carolina on Jan. 23. The 6’3”, 205-pound right wing recorded a point in six consecutive games from Jan. 13 to Jan. 23 (4g, 6a), tied for the fourth-longest point streak on the team last season. Burakovsky also scored the Capitals first goal of the 2016-17 season 0:59 into the first period on Oct. 13 at Pittsburgh, marking the third-fastest goal to start a season in franchise history.

During the 2015-16 season, Burakovsky recorded 38 points (17g, 21a) in 79 games, setting career highs in goals, points and games played. He earned a point in eight consecutive games from Jan. 17, 2016 to Feb.  9. 2016 (6g, 4a), marking the longest point streak by a Capitals player since Nicklas Backstrom recorded a nine-game point streak during the 2012-13 season (3/30/13-4/13/13: 1g, 14a). In addition, Burakovsky scored a goal in five straight games (1/19-2/6: 6g, 1a) and was one of 11 players in the NHL during the 2015-16 season to score a goal in five or more consecutive games. He also played in his 100th NHL/Capitals game on Feb. 6, 2016 at New Jersey, becoming the eighth player in franchise history to reach 100 games before their 21st birthday (Bob Carpenter, Scott Stevens, Kevin Hatcher, Gaetan Duchesne, Tom Wilson, Mike Marson, Nicklas Backstrom). The Malmo, Sweden, native was selected by the Capitals in the first round, 23rd overall, in the 2013 NHL Draft and has recorded 95 points (38g, 57a) in 196 career NHL games with Washington.
