Entries with the tag: all-star weekend
Well, we made it, and in some pretty decent time, as best I can tell.
But I will say this: Nine-and-a-half hours in a car with anyone is trying – and my partner on The Bolts Beat, ESPN 1040’s Mike Corcoran didn’t even do anything wrong. In fact, he did many things right! I mean, have you ever seen anyone eat three, count ‘em, three bacon cheeseburgers from Wendy’s in one sitting??? In fairness, I should counter that with an admittance to crushing about eight double stuffed Oreos once the energy meter started plummeting but, man, was that burger bombing awfully impressive!
We arrived right around 12:30 am and were basically settled in the room by 1:00. I considered a quick pint at what was described as the only place that would still be open right here in the vicinity of our hotel but decided against it in favor of some shuteye.
This afternoon, I will begin the trek to Raleigh, North Carolina, for coverage of this weekend’s All-Star festivities.
I have some feature ideas and interview targets in mind, which I’ll post individually as they come together, but one thing I wanted to put out there for the readers is a journal-type account of the trip, including the near ten-hour journey alongside my partner on The Bolts Beat, ESPN 1040’s Mike Corcoran. (Given our argumentative relationship on the show, if one of us doesn’t finally kill the other at some point between now and Monday, the weekend will be considered a roaring success.)
I’ll recap the ongoing revelry several times throughout each day and post those updates in the KK Hockey section of the site continually but I also thought I’d toss out the invitation to follow along on Twitter, if you aren’t doing so already, as this weekend’s happenings are sure to entertain the masses in rapid fire fashion, even while we’re on the road.

A little hodgepodge of opinion from yours truly today before I jump into the latest installment of our Southeast AHL Affiliate Update later on.
I should start off by saying that, while I’m heartbroken – just shattered – over my beloved New York Jets being ousted from the NFL playoffs last night, a game away from a Super Bowl berth for the second consecutive season, I’m also slightly relieved. Sure, now I’m left to continue to wonder if my dad is right when he encourages me to push my two young sons toward another pro football franchise as their favorite in an effort to save them from perennial Jet torture, but their elimination means I have one less distraction now and can focus on hockey’s stretch run. (Trying to be positive here… Sigh…)
To put that to bed, let’s just say I wouldn’t mind if that team – that football team, remember – hired a hockey guy as their offensive coordinator. The one they have is worthless.
