A Four-Year Contract Extension For Alexander Steen

(Sept. 23, 2016) – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the Blues have signed forward Alexander Steen to a four-year contract extension worth $23 million.

“We are extremely excited to have Alexander signed for the next four seasons,” said Armstrong.  “He has developed into one of the league’s premier 200-foot players and is a key member of our leadership group.  He has shown tremendous loyalty to the Blues organization, its fans and the St. Louis community.

Steen, 32, is entering his ninth season in St. Louis after the Blues acquired him via trade from Toronto on Nov. 24, 2008.  In 2015-16, the 6’0, 205-pound forward dressed in 67 regular season games, ranking second on the Blues with 35 assists and 52 points, and fifth with 17 goals.  During the 2016 postseason, Steen led the Blues to their first trip to the Western Conference Final in 15 years, posting 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 20 appearances.

Shoulder Surgery A Success For Alexander Steen

(June 3, 2016) - St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that Blues forward Alexander Steen has undergone successful surgery on his left shoulder.  The procedure was performed by Dr. Rick Wright and Dr. Matt Smith of Washington University Orthopedics.  Steen is scheduled to be re-evaluated in 16 weeks.

Steen, 32, ranked second on the Blues with 52 points (17 goals, 35 assists) this past season.  The 6'0, 212-pound forward also set postseason career highs in goals (4), assists (6) and points (10) during the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs.  The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native will enter his ninth season with the Blues in 2016-17.

Alexander Steen Out At Least A Month With An Upper-Body Injury

 (Feb. 21, 2016) – St. Louis Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that forward Alexander Steen has been placed on injured reserve with an upper body injury and will be re-evaluated in four weeks.  Steen suffered the injury during the first period in Saturday night’s 6-4 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

Alexander Steen Has A Concussion And Goes On IR

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock would not disclose the nature of Steen’s injury, but it’s believed that a culmination of hits against Ottawa, Montreal and Edmonton have taken a toll. The possibility that Steen, who missed 39 games in 2012-13 with a concussion, is dealing with another head injury cannot be ruled out.

Alexander Steen Listed As Day-To-Day

Alexander Steen, who ranks second in the NHL with 24 goals and ninth in the league with 38 points, left Saturday’s 6-0 victory over Edmonton in the second period and didn’t return. The team announced Sunday that Steen is out with an upper-body injury, and he will miss tonight’s game against Calgary.

The Blues, following their matchup with the Flames, will be off until hosting Chicago on Saturday night at Scottrade Center, and whether Steen will be available when the club returns from the holiday break is uncertain.

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock would not disclose the nature of Steen’s injury, but it’s believed that a culmination of hits against Ottawa, Montreal and Edmonton have taken a toll. “We’ll review it right after Christmas and decide what we’re going to do there,” Hitchcock said. “We’ll see how it goes.”
