Yzerman Wants Lemieux More Involved

from Chris Johnston of the CP at The Score,

Steve Yzerman wants to hear more from Mario Lemieux.

“I think Mario is one of the most well-respected, intelligent people in the game,” the Tampa Bay Lightning GM said Monday on a conference call. “I would encourage him (and) I think we should all encourage him to get more involved with the league because he has a lot to offer.”

Seems to me all Yzerman is saying is that Mario should be a more high-profile owner, instead of spending an inordinate amount of time in the basement…with Thid.

Why would we rip Yzerman?  He tactfully and artfully said what a lot of us have been bluntly saying since Lemieux came out with what he did.

Read between the lines and translate that a bit:

“I think Mario is one of the most well-respected, intelligent people in the game,” the Tampa Bay Lightning GM said Monday on a conference call. “I would encourage him (and) I think we should all encourage him to get more involved with the league because he has a lot to offer.”

Means:

“Nice to know that Lemieux cares, but if he cares so much, he needs to speak up more often, rather than only when his team has been wronged”

Alternately translates to what a lot of us have been saying:

Lemieux is right, his timing is wrong.

???

Did you read the same quotes as I did?

All he said is that Mario should speak his mind and participate more in league issues, he didn’t say whether he thought Mario was right or wrong with his rant.

And if you’d lose the inferiority complex, you’d see that many Wings fans, myself included, have said that we agree with Mario’s message, but don’t agree that airing it publicly was the smartest move to make because:

A) Now he will look like a hypocrite if he doesn’t come down on his own players when they commit nasty plays (see Matt Cooke’s entire career and Talbot’s flying elbow on Comeau)
B) The more he talks like this publicly, the more he loses credibility, because this is at least the third time he’s pulled out the, “I’ll take the puck and go home!” trick out of his bag

After watching the Isles pummel the Pens to the point that Mario threw a hissy-fit in the press, I’d say you’re 100% spot-on! smile

Glad you have so much to contribute to this thread.  But, hey, we’re just happy that you have a forum for you to spew your vitriolic hate.  That way you don’t have to acknowledge how truly pitiful your non-internet life is.

On-Topic:  Gotta disagree with Stevey on this one (and not the first time I have done so).  Mario is a whiney hypocrite:

When do you see Mario in the press as an owner? Whenever he’s whining, and complaining.

How many times has Mario come out and made statements regarding the good of the game as a whole? He doesn’t, he only issues statements when it can benefit him and his team. And as mentioned ealrier, he always has to hint at the possibility he might just leave if he doesn’t get his way.

Great hockey player, shi*** owner.

Translation: “Damn, they are right…Yzerman really doesn’t say he agrees with Mario, and he is actually saying Mario needs to be a more high-profile owner. How did I miss that??”

A 12-year-old who used four exclammation points, random capitalization, a “HAHAHAHAHAHAHA” and a nonsense phrase like “Twat Waffles” to try to make a point clearly never had a mind to begin with. smile

And now would be a good point at which to ask Paul when that “blocking” feature will be ready. Soon, right? Right?

Reading comprehension is a prereq for participating on any blog. We need a doorman to yell “HEY! WHO LET YOU IN HERE?” occasionally.

Sooooooo… Yzerman cleverly and subtly called out Lemieux as being uninvolved and only “showing up” when he has a gripe or a whine.

The “We should all encourage him” part is particularly daming.  We’ve been here all along, you just finally decide to join in now?...

Wow yeah… way to be proud of a quote about your owner there, Pens’ trolls… You should get more involved with the rest of us.  You might even learn something along the way!...
