Your Trade Deadline Primer

from Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun,

THE BIG BUYERS

SAN JOSE: Badly want to add scoring depth up front. GM Doug Wilson has a reputation for kicking tires and not closing the deal. Big test for him here.

WHO THEY LIKE: Rick Nash (CBJ), Teemu Selanne (ANA), Ales Hemsky (EDM).

BOSTON: Would like to add a forward and defenceman for a long spring. GM Peter Chiarelli showed last spring he isn’t afraid to make a move.

WHO THEY LIKE: Teemu Selanne (ANA), Ales Hemsky (EDM), Mike Knuble (WSH).

LOS ANGELES: GM Dean Lombardi pulled the trigger last year to get Dustin Penner. That didn’t work out so well. He may be gun-shy, but wants scoring.

WHO THEY LIKE: Rick Nash (CBJ), Teemu Selanne (ANA), Ales Hemsky (EDM).

Doug Wilson has a rep for kicking tires and not closing the deal?  He’s made big trades every year, he just generally makes his bigger moves in the summer while his deadline deals are more focused on role players.  It’s like Garrioch doesn’t even follow the NHL.

Didn’t Wilson close the Joe Thornton deal ? Wasn’t that a pretty big deal ? Sure it’s not as big as “Malkin to the Kings”, but…........
