from Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star,
The league continually changes its rules in pursuit -- of what exactly? Excitement? Offence?
You want both? And fewer shootouts? Give us more goals. Make the nets bigger, making them harder to defend. Especially given the shot-blocking defences teams use now after they get that coveted first goals.
Maybe four inches wider, four inches taller. Get back to 5-4 games where anything can happen.
Before you get all traditional on me, just consider the changes hockey has seen since its rules were codified:
-A sixth skater, the rover, was eliminated.
-The blue lines keep moving.
-The red goal-line keeps moving.
