from Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic,
For a young player trying to make a quick impression, mistakes can pile up rapidly. There are tough lessons to learn.
Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle had his share of struggles as he embarked on his learning curve. He listened, took criticism to heart and applied what he had learned - and he has made giant strides, to the point he is recognized as one of the top blue liners in the league.
So why don’t more people in the Valley know about him, an evolving 24-year-old who this season was named an assistant captain?
“Probably because he’s not in a major media market for hockey, simple as that,” coach Dave Tippett said. “If he’s in a real hockey market, where the hockey stories are first online instead of not first, then he gets a lot more exposure.
“The people in the game know about him because you hear it from other coaches, you hear it from other people and scouts involved in the game. They all know who he is.”
