Would Dave Tippett Be Interested In The Avs Coaching Position?

from Mike Chambers of All Things Avs,

Phoenix Coyotes coach Dave Tippett, whose contract with the troubled team expires June 30, is currently in Europe, serving as an assistant coach for Canada at the World Championship, and probably wondering where he will coach in the NHL next season.

The Avalanche has got to be an option, particularly when Canadian centers Matt Duchene and Ryan O’Reilly of the Avs serve as constant reminders that Colorado has a solid young team and is in need of a coach.

In my mind – and others who I have discussed it with – Tippett would be a home-run hire for the Avalanche.

The Dive won the suck for seth sweepstakes, so they’ll have a top D man for years to come. Coming from PHX, is the Dive job a lateral move or downward?

Why would a coach who’s in demand want to go to an organization that’s so dysfunctional?  A young, talented nucleus isn’t enough, and Colorado’s current leadership doesn’t seem to be capable of building anything but a lottery-pick machine.

I hope Tippett goes back to Dallas.  He’d be seen as a savior since they’re on the cusp of being a playoff team again and finally have a (presumably) competent GM.

I’m with you Shane, he’d be a good fit for Nill & Co.

He was very well liked last time around in Dallas, too.

Hope his family liked the city.
