via NHL.com,
Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for the remainder of the preseason and for eight regular-season games and will forfeit $536,585.36 for an illegal check to the head of Minnesota Wild forward Cal Clutterbuck during a preseason game on September 23, NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan announced today.
Wisniewski, who was suspended last season, is classified as a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Accordingly, he forfeits his salary based on the number of games in the season (82), rather than the number of days (185). The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
Following the horn that ended the third period, Wisniewski delivered a blow that targeted Clutterbuck’s head and made it the principal point of contact. Wisniewski was assessed a minor penalty for illegal check to the head.

Wisnieuwski is one of the dirtiest head-hunters out there. I’ll bet this is not his last. That hit on Seabrook should have earned him a lifetime ban.

I’ll save you the suspense about Wisniewski’s future. Wisniewski is Marc Andre-Bergeron but with sharp elbows—which is to say he’s a mobile guy with a big slapshot, who is adept with cheapshots, but is otherwise awful at everything. Terrible signing. He’s a journeyman stopgap making 1st pairing money (notice the Islanders traded his ass for a pick the second some of their younger guys started producing from the point? That wasn’t a mistake). Most-overpaid player in the league next to Redden. Probably worse than Redden, tbh.

It was a penalty (much like whacking an already cracked stick and breaking it completely), but it wasn’t avoidable at the point the circumstances changed it from ‘hit’ to ‘board’ and would, thereby, not be suspendable by either last year’s or this year’s standards.
