Winnipeg Couple Declines Free NHL Tickets, Plan On Filing Human Rights Complaint

from CBC,

A Winnipeg couple say they will file a human rights complaint against the NHL for a policy requiring their breastfeeding baby to have a full-price ticket to the upcoming Heritage Classic, even after the league apologized and offered them free tickets.

Clifford Anderson and Shalyn Meady went public with their concerns earlier this week, after learning they would have to spend an extra $400 for their six-month-old son, William, to attend the 2016 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg next month....

On Thursday, Anderson told CBC News that the NHL's vice-president of marketing contacted him to offer two complimentary tickets.

"They were very polite and apologized for the fact that we were unhappy with the situation and offered us tickets, two tickets to the Heritage Classic," he said.

However, he said there were two catches — the couple could not publicize the ticket offer if they accepted it, and he was told similar arrangements would not be offered to other families with young children.

Anderson said they declined the league's offer. Instead, he and Meady want the NHL to change its policy so families can bring children under the age of two to the Heritage Classic game without tickets.

These people are ignorant. They shouldn’t be subjecting their child’s debentures hearing to this level of noise. And they should just get a babysitter. This is ridiculous and shouldn’t even be allowed in court. I say this as a parent.

These people are going to get laughed out of any respectable lawyers office, and a courtroom if these people have the money to make a lawyer look the other way.

I hope these people have to pay the NHL’s legal bills when all is said and done, and I assume that any lawyers the league employs are exorbitantly expensive.

No kidding.  I say that as a parent also.

If your kid is so little they’re breast-feeding, you should not be taking them to an outdoor game anyways.  Period.  It’s just irresponsible otherwise.  The noise, and the potential for cold, even that early on, are very large.

If you can’t get anyone to watch the kid, THEN YOU DON’T GO TO THE GAME.  PERIOD.  That is what parenting and being a parent is.  If the kid is breastfeeding, there are these amazing things called pumps so you could still have some set aside for the kid while you were gone.  That’s what everyone else does.  However, I would be willing to bet money their answer to this would be that their precious baby is simply *too special* and HAS to have it from the mother and that’s the only way… you know, THOSE kind of people.

One could hope.

At some point an example needs to be made of someone with these suits.  It would not surprise me if this couple are fairly well-off, and the possibility of their financial ruin would certainly (hopefully) make others think twice before making a case like this.

A plaintiff or three going bankrupt out of it all would be an ideal result.

Poor kid. Shitty parents.

I would have offered to call Social Services before offering them free tickets.

If these people can’t make a sacrifice for the kid now by NOT going to the game, how are they going to make the many sacrifices they’ll need to make during the child’s life?

These people are ridiculous. My guess is they just crave the attention. Like all of us parents, just get a babysitter or DON’T GO. If your baby is so special, spend the time with the baby instead of fighting this in court.

Human Rights issue? Please. that’s a slap in the face of those who suffer real human rights issues.
